The project

Adopt a pumpkin field from "La Oizéenne" in Oizé (France) and receive your harvest in the form of organic mixed squash at home. Pierre will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

Adopt a pumpkin field that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2019. You adopt a 24m2 plot of land that we cultivate using Organic Farming. We have several regional varieties of squash: potimarron (red kuri squash), butternut, betty blue, spaghetti squash. We grow several varieties to have a wide choice of products and to suit everyone's taste. Each squash has its own unique taste, texture and shelf life. You can enjoy the culinary pleasures! The squash is an annual plant. The plot on which it is grown today had been fallow for about ten years. The soil has completely regenerated and we certified it as organic in 2019. We sow the squash seeds on a sandy plot in April / May. Growing squash usually takes 4 months to mature. The squashes are then picked by hand, every day from Monday to Sunday. In order to guarantee the best possible quality, the products have to be harvested at the right time of maturity and must not exceed a certain size. We maintain the plot using two techniques: mechanical hoeing with a tool or by hand hoeing. You should know that a squash plant produces one squash and dies. All squashes have different characteristics in terms of taste, color, size or pulp. We harvest the squash from August until November and they have a shelf life of 3 months from the date of harvest (until January). One square meter of squash plants produces 1 kg of squash. Your adoption produces an average of 24 kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 4 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __6kg of mixed squash__ You will receive 6 kg of mixed squash (potimarron, butternut, potiron, betty blue, spaghetti squash) to help you discover the flavors of each organic variety that we grow: * __Organic Potimarron (red kuri squash)__ (september until mid-december): its sweet flavor, pronounced taste of chestnut and thick and particularly creamy flesh can be enjoyed in soup, gratin, steamed, in pie (sweet or savory) * __Organic Spaghetti Squash__ (september until mid-october): Also called vegetable spaghetti, this is a unique squash. It takes its name from its flesh, which when cooked is cut into long filaments, and its slightly scent taste brings it even closer to the famous Italian pasta. * __Organic Pâtisson__: (September to mid-October) summer squash with a flavour similar to that of the artichoke; flattened shape, resembling a flower and recognisable by its white colour; preparation: cut into strips, diced or sliced, cooking recomendation: sautéed, blanched, stuffed, au gratin or in a soup. * __Organic Butternut__ (october until mid-december): Butternut squash is sometimes called Nuts de Beurre or Sweet Squash. The French name evokes the delicious taste of this squash, especially the velvety texture obtained in cooking thanks to its fine, buttery and melting flesh like avocado. * __Organic Betty Blue__ (mid-october until mid-december): its atypical top shape and gray-blue color sets it apart from other squashes. Its flesh is very sweet, fleshy and orange, ideal for cooking it like all other squash in the oven, in soup or in a pan. Watch out for its skin, which is not edible. * 1 __Surprise Squash__ (October to mid-October): an additional squash to discover a new seasonal variety These squashes can be stored for 3 months in a cool, dry place. To be used in cooking: soup, gratin, mash, fried...

When will you receive it?

All squash are sown in April and harvested from August. They are harvested when ripe until November.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
