Adopt an apple tree from the "Obsthof Rönn" farm in Meckenheim (Tyskland) and receive your Bioland organic "Future" apples at home. Michael will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt an apple tree from our farm in Meckenheim (Tyskland). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union since 2019. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apple tree. The trees for your adoption grow on different areas of our farm that we have created after our conversion to organic farming in 2016. For some sites, we have deliberately selected varieties that can mean the future for us. There is a very large range of apple varieties available today, which shows how important the apple as a fruit has been for us for a long time. How it made its way to Germany is not exactly clear. What is certain is that it set out on its way to us several thousand years ago along human trade routes from Asia (possibly from Kazakhstan). Today's cultivated apple (*Malus domestica*) is a deciduous tree that can grow to a height of 8-15m and forms a protruding crown. In winter, it loses its leaves and reawakens from hibernation in Spring with shoots of leaves and beautiful apple blossoms. It is, by the way, part of the rose family. We keep an eye on our trees all year round. They must be cut back and cared for, pruned and watered when needed. Nevertheless, in times of climate change, it is becoming increasingly difficult to produce high quality apples with the existing varieties. The apples get sunburn, remain very small due to drought or the blossoms freeze. Fungal pressure on the land is also increasing during wet periods. As a result, more plant protection must be carried out. A sustainable cultivation approach is particularly important to us in our work. This also includes trying to drive less through the plantations with the tractor, to have to apply less plant protection and still produce good apples, even with increasingly frequent extreme weather events. This requires new varieties. These varieties are resistant or insensitive to certain fungal infections, they can tolerate colder temperatures at blossoming and greater heat in summer. They can also cope with less water. This gives us a chance to produce apples in the future as the climate continues to change: Future Apples. Our future varieties are Natyra, Sonnenglanz, Topaz, Shalimar, Ladina, Soprano, Dalilight, Santana and PIA 41. Your adoption is 6 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. In 2019 we were awarded the Ludwig Company Award in the Sustainability category. Your apple tree produces an average of 22.5kg of Bioland organic "Future" apples each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4.5kg of Bioland organic “Future” apples__ * To experience how diverse the different apple varieties can be, we offer you here a package of our “Future Apples”. The different varieties vary from sour (Shalimar) to very sweet (PIA 41) and from aromatic (Topaz) to exotic (Natyra or Sonnenglanz) * For the Autumn shipping dates (September-November) you'll get varieties like Santana, PIA 41, Topaz and Ladina * In Winter (December-March) we'd rather send Dalilight, Natyra, Sonnenglanz, Shalimar and Soprano, as well as Topaz in your package * You can download more detailed variety descriptions and a rough harvest calendar under "Additional analyses" * Organic cultivation, certified with the EU organic seal and the Bioland seal since 2019 * Harvested upon request, without waxes and preservatives on the skin, sent in a plastic-free cardboard box * All apples are suitable as fresh table fruit, which means that they can be enjoyed fresh, but they are also great in cereals; I also recommend the slightly more tart varieties for baking cakes * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in size and appearance * A kilo contains between 5-8 fruits (in a box you will find between 20 and 35 pieces depending on the size) * The best place to store is in a cool environment, it is best to store your apples in the fridge, this will keep them fresh and crunchy for about 2-3 weeks, for optimal taste when eaten, they should be served at room temperature * Only put out as much as you can eat in the next two to three days, since our apples ripen quickly at room temperature
När får du det?
We harvest our future apples from mid-August to mid-November. We pick each variety several times in order to always harvest optimally ripe fruit. The different varieties have different ripening times and storage characteristics. After harvesting, they are stored in our facilities under optimal conditions. Some varieties need a few more weeks in storage, others can be enjoyed directly from the tree, as the taste is already fully mature. Therefore, we can always offer you a new mix of apples from our apple orchard from mid-September until the new year.
