Adopt vines from the farm "Montemaggio" in Siena (Italien) and receive your harvest in the form of organic fresh wine Chardonnay Sangiovese PGI Toscana at home. The Farmer Valeria will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption. These wines were tasted by a group of professional wine tasters that collaborate with CrowdFarming, and was rated 87 out of a possible 100 points, on average.
Adopt vines (Chardonnay and Sangoviese variety) that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2009. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your vines. We are situated in the area of Chianti Classico, a renowned wine growing region. Therefore, it felt natural for us to share with CrowdFarmers the flavours of this region and the wines that represent it the best. Therefore we have created a couple of fresh wines to complement our red wine production. At Montemaggio we produce 3 fresh wines: Rose di Montemaggio, Chardonnay di Montemaggio and Cielo di Montemaggio. Rose di Montemaggio is made completely from Sangiovese grapes. Sangiovese is known for its minerality which tends to make for very fresh, crispy, deep-colored Rose wines. Chardonnay is used to produce wines for both Chardonnay di Montemaggio and sparkling Cielo di Montemaggio. Chardonnay is not a typical grape variety for Tuscany as traditionally it is famous for Trebbiano and Vermentino, but being positioned so high above sea level, we have decided to try and see whether the minerality of Sangiovese will give our Chardonnay wines a nice touch. We have been very happy with the result since it's a very mineral Chardonnay, also very crisp and zesty, with a round creamy palate and even some exotic fruity aftertaste. In order to produce a higher quality wine, the yield has to be very low, hence from every adopted vine we usually harvest 1,5 kg of grapes which roughly makes 1 bottle. The most used vine training systems here are cordone speronato (spurred cordon), alberello (head-trained bush vine), and guyot. We started the conversion towards organic agriculture in 2006 (although prior to this, we were not using any damaging chemicals to the soil or the plants ). We were certified organic in 2009. These characteristics, in addition to the exposure (south-southwest), the slopes, the micro-climate, the soil, and the hard and accurate and passionate work done, guarantee the production of excellent and authentic Tuscan wines. The productive life of vines is around 20 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your vines die, we will replace them with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others.

The result is - an incredibly fruity, fresh, mineral, dry rose with a hint of strawberry, which is perfect for summer as an aperitif or as an alternative to the white wine. It is very fresh and full of flavour, perfect for your fresh summer salads with avocado or seafood, any fish or shellfish. Fried food would also perfectly pair with the freshness of our Rose. This is not an aged Rose. This wine should be enjoyed throughout this year preferably, and beginning of the next year, as eventually it will be losing its flavour and will become dull in colour. This wine has a glass cork. It has been a new experience for Montemaggio that we started doing a few years ago since we always used cork. Glass cork allows for less oxygen to pass through, creating an airtight seal. In addition, the bottle with its glass cork can be reused subsequently as a container for the water, for olive oil, or anything else you might like to put inside. Make sure to chill it very well before serving - it should be around 8-10 degrees cold. * __Chardonnay di Montemaggio__ is dry white wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, which we have started cultivating in Montemaggio in 2008, we personally like Chardonnay very much and since we are located in high altitude, we decided to go for it. Our Chardonnay is very light, mineral, and elegant. It has a straw-like yellow colour, with the notes of honey, cream, and butter. It is aged in wood for about 5-6 months. This wine has a longer shelf life than Rose. You will enjoy it also next summer if you are able to resist. Chardonnay will be perfect as an alternative to red wine and ideal with fish and seafood, any poultry dishes, especially creamy ones. It will be ideal with white meats as well, and any oily fish. The creaminess will go well together with the crispness of the wine and the light flavour will never overpower your meal. Chardonnay has a glass transparent cork, of the same nature as Rose di Montemaggio. Make sure to chill it well - also at 8-10 degrees. This is the standard temperature for all fresh wines. * __Cielo di Montemaggio Cuvée Brut__ - is a sparkling wine made with the Charmant method and based on the Chardonnay. Cielo means "sky" in Italian. We decided to name the wine this way, also found on the label, because this very fine and elegant wine reminded us of the stars on the sky above Montemaggio. This wine is very light and subtle, the bubbles are small, hence, not overpowering. It is perfect as an aperitif accompanying cheese or olives. It would also be ideal for desert. This wine has a traditional cork and it will keep well for about a year or a bit longer. The base for it is our Chardonnay, which is slightly aged and therefore is able to be enjoyed for the next season, however, it is slightly less flavoursome. It also has to be chilled beforehand. Sometimes when it is very hot out, we put it in the freezer 10 minutes before serving. You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out. We usually harvest Chardonnay starting from the end of August/early September, but it depends on the year. After the first fermentation, we usually have a second “malolactic” fermentation usually in wood, where the wine stays for about 5-6 months. We bottle this wine around February/March, and therefore Chardonnay and Cielo di Montemaggio usually are available for shipment during mid-April. The Sangiovese used for the Rose we usually harvest in early October. Again, this very much depends on the weather conditions, but it is usually at the end of September, and beginning of October. Fermentation starts only when we decide it, controlling the temperature in the barrels, preserving aromas and flavours of the wine. When fermentation is controlled we are 100% sure that all the flavours and aromas are fully preserved and are not lost. Subsequently, a genuinely good quality bottle of wine can be enjoyed by our CrowdFarmers.
