Adopt a sheep from the flock of "Laines Paysannes" in Bonnac (Frankrike) and receive your organic wool pillowcase at home. Olivia will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one sheep is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic wool pillowcase and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Vad adopterar du?

You adopt a sheep from our farm in Bonnac (Frankrike). The livestock farming and the produce are both certified as organic by the European Union as of 2009. The ewes are of the Tarasconnaise breed, a hardy, French sheep breed originating in the central Pyrenees and present particularly in the regions Ariège, Hautes-Pyrénées, and Haute-Garonne. Its name is linked to the town of Tarascon-sur-Ariège, and it adapts perfectly to life in the mountains during transhumance - that is when sheep go up into the mountains in the summer to find grass that is still green and to avoid the extreme heat. The ewes available for adoption are reared organically in the open air, fed exclusively on fresh grass, and are on rotational grazing. 250 hectares of land are available for grazing and cultivation. This method of rearing originated in New Zealand and allows the ewes to have the freshest grass possible, as well as allowing the grass to grow back naturally. It is a breeding method that limits the number of parasites because the animals do not stay on the same plot for long. In the middle of winter our ewes are fed hay from our meadows. And as summer approaches the flock moves to the mountains of the Haute-Ariège, at an altitude of over 1,200m, to find green grass again. They stay there for about 4 months. We are keen to practice transhumance because this traditional way of rearing sheep just makes sense to us. It helps to preserve an open mountain landscape and it perpetuates environmentally friendly agriculture. The ewes give birth to one or two lambs (twins) per year and are shorn each spring, at which time we sort the wool. The culled ewes are sent to the local abattoir for the meat to be sold. The lambs are the main source of our income, and their meat is sold directly to consumers in short supply chains. From A to Z, we control each stage of our work. This is essential for us. Our flock has an average age of 2 years and the maximum lifespan of a sheep is about 7 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and we guarantee your delivery from the production of other units. Your adoption produces an average of 1kg of wool each season. With this amount we can produce around 3 organic wool pillowcase. 3 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 1kg of organic wool pillowcase.

Vad får du?

Each season we will send you a box with: __1 organic hand-woven pillowcase 60cm x 60cm__ The pillowcase you will receive is the “Névé” : a plain, ecru pillowcase measuring 60x60cm and weighing about 0,25 kg. It is carefully hand-woven from Pyrenean wool, and will certainly keep you warm. The natural colour will make your home feel comfortable and cosy. We collect the wool from our farm and select only the best fibres. The wool is then washed and spun close to home. The plaid is carefully hand-woven from Pyrenean wool and it is very warm and soft. This light coloured pillowcase is very unique and will brighten up your home. They match perfectly with the “Névé'' plaid that you can also find at CrowdFarming, creating a harmonious place. To produce the pillocases, we collect the wool from our farm and select only the best fibres. The wool is then washed and spun close to home. To weave your "Névé" pillocase, we work with the Teixidors cooperative (a cooperative for the social integration of disabled people). They practice traditional weaving in a beautiful workshop with eighteen looms, thus perpetuating an ancestral know-how of quality. This collaboration is, above all, a human venture where beautiful values are shared around know-how and wool. It is a long-standing partnership that we wish to promote. Wool has properties that make it easy to care for. Naturally antistatic, it does not retain dust or bad odours, so maintenance is easy! Regularly shake it out and hang it up in an airy place. To wash, put your pillowcase in the washing machine on a cold wool programme, without spinning. You can also wash it gently by hand. However you wash it, always lay flat to dry.

När får du det?

You will receive your pillowcase in early December. The weaving is dependent on the seasonality of the shearing. Each year, in April/May we collect the wool, which is washed and spun at the end of the summer. It then takes a few months to weave the wool, which allows us to deliver the pillowcases in early winter.
