Adopt a mango tree from the farm "La Reala" in Motril (Spanien) and receive your harvest in the form of organic mango at home. Damián will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Motril (Spanien). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2018. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. The Osteen variety is the most popular in the area. The mango is a fruit from Asia that has adapted very well to our region. The trees of the three varieties are very similar in shape and size. None of them exceed 2.5 metres in height as they're grafted in a dwarf rootstock (GomeraII). This characteristic is desirable because our farm is is located on mountain slopes in an area characterised by strong winds, which can damage very tall plants. We started with the European Union organic certification on the farm in 2010. Now we also hold the demanding Bio Suisse organic certificate (a further certificate that prioritises the environment and biodiversity), issued by the largest organic farming association in Switzerland. Our farm has areas of Mediterranean forest and mountains with abundant flora and wild fauna. There are many sections of pine forest and Mediterranean scrub where you can see foxes, mountain goats, chameleons or birds of prey. The crops are efficiently drip-irrigated with pure water from the snowmelt of the nearby Sierra Nevada. Your adoption is 13 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your mango tree produces an average of 15kg of organic mango each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others. This farm is one of the largest associated with a farming cooperative, with which we market our agricultural products. The fruit you'll receive will come mainly from this farm, but we also rely on other members of the cooperative. We all grow under the same quality parameters audited by the cooperative's technicians. Together we're stronger and provide better service. My father was a founding partner of the cooperative and our mangos have helped us receive the following awards: * Innovative Initiative Award, granted by the Andalusian Federation of Cooperatives * First Prize for Corporate Social Responsibility, awarded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs * Generosity Award, granted by the Granada Food Bank Foundation The cooperative currently holds the GLOBALG.A.P., Grasp and Bio Suisse quality certifications for organic farming.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __ 5kg box of organic mangos__ * Osteen (September-October): elongated oval shape; medium-large size; skin with a very characteristic purple hue and orange, yellow or greenish areas; low fibre content; pulp with a sweet flavour and a touch of bitterness * Organic farming certified by the Bio Suisse standard and the EU organic label since 2018 * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 1 and 3 fruits * Keep them at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away The first thing you should do when you receive the box of mangos is inspect the fruit. Some of them might be ready to eat, but you might have to wait a few days until the others are ready. This can range from three to twenty days, depending on the variety and the ripening conditions. If you have to wait, keep the mangos in a dry place. If most of them are already ripe, you can store them directly in the fridge. Their ripening will depend on the respiration rate of the fruit; placing them at a higher temperature speeds up respiration (and ripening), while a colder temperature will delay respiration. When they give slightly under your fingers and begin to give off their aroma, you can place them in the fridge and eat them a few days later. If for some reason they over-ripen, you can freeze the flesh to make smoothies or other recipes in the future, dehydrate them, or make jam with them. To eat, you need to separate the flesh from the skin, either by peeling the fruit or by slicing it in half and cutting the flesh into cubes. You might receive some very small mangos in your box, which are hard to find in shops as they normally have no commercial value, but they are absolutely delicious! These 'baby' mangos come from flowers that failed to pollinate properly, so the fruit could fully develop but without a stone. Not all boxes will include them, but if you do try them, please let me know what you think! The mangos from our farm have an excellent quality thanks to the care with which they are grown. You'll receive them very fresh due to the proximity between the farm and the consumer. We only pick them when they reach between 10 and 12 degrees Brix, so they have a spectacular level of sweetness. We ripen the fruit on the tree and don't store them in cold rooms, so in a few hours they will go from the tree to your home.
När får du det?
The mango is a fruit that ripens with the rays of the summer sun, so the harvest season begins in autumn. The Osteen mango is ready to be delivered in September-October. These times may vary slightly depending on the weather, so the harvest may start a bit earlier or a bit later.
