Adopt a melon plot from "Finca Quixote" in Llanos del Caudillo (Spanien) and receive your harvest in the form of Demeter organic melon at home. Carlos will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a melon plot (6m²) that we cultivate under the Organic Farming and Demeter regulations of the European Union since 2016. Finca Quixote was founded in 2001 on the basis of two fundamental pillars: respect for the land and the search for innovation in growing food. Accordingly, we obtained our first organic certificate in 2003 and today we cultivate our land under Demeter regulations. *Cucumis melo* is the scientific name of the plant that gives us the melon, one of the most refreshing fruits in the hot summer months. It’s a tendril that dates back thousands of years, with Egyptian paintings from 2,400 BC depicting the fruit. This crop is believed to have spread from Asia to the Mediterranean Basin, where it was popularised by Alexander the Great in Ancient Greece. Nowadays, it's one of the most important crops in Spain. Actually, the Galia melon is relatively modern, as it comes from the cross between the Cantaloupe and Honeydew varieties in Israel in 1970. The melon requires about 5500 m³/h of water to grow properly. If we don't get enough rainfall, we use a drip irrigation system to guarantee your harvest. We use water responsibly, implementing a probe system that tells us when and how much to water each plot. Following our goal to “close the circle”, we carry out periodic crop rotations, minimise waste as much as possible, and revalue our waste with the help of both our animals and those of nearby farmers and our compost area. A melon plot from our farm produces an average of 30kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 6 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5kg box of Demeter organic melons__ * Galia melon: small and spherical fruit, yellow rind with numerous pale-yellow streaks that give it its characteristic rough texture, green pulp and yellow seeds * Biodynamic farming certified by the Demeter label since 2016 * 1 piece weighs between 1 and 2kg (the box contains between 4 and 6 fruits depending on the size) * They will last for 4 weeks if kept in a cool and airy place in good conditions * If you don't finish it once it has been cut open, cover to prevent it from drying out and store in the fridge You can eat melon at any time; We love to share it outdoors surrounded by family or friends, but you can also accompany it with other fruits or salads. When you cut it open, you'll be surprised by the green colour of its pulp, which surrounds the yellow seeds in the middle of the fruit, don't be fooled by this green colour! This melon is surprisingly sweet and refreshing.
När får du det?
When we grow vegetables, we try to organise the sowing dates to stagger the harvest and offer you the freshest product. In this case, we start sowing in spring to offer you watermelons from June to September, depending on the weather conditions each year.
