Adopt a kumquat tree from the farm "Finca Montealegre" in Competa (Spanien) and receive your organic kumquats at home. Antonio will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a kumquat tree from our farm in Competa (Spanien). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2016. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your kumquat tree. The kumquats of our Montealegre project are part of our farm located in the Axarquía region, east of the province of Málaga between the Sierra Tejeda and the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its history and the particularities of the terrain, there are many more smallholdings here than large-scale farms. We plant our trees among the mangoes on our farm, which is a common practice to take advantage of space and to diversify production, as the trees produce different amounts of fruit each year. The kumquat is native to China and was introduced to Europe by the Scottish botanist Robert Fortune in the nineteenth century, hence its scientific name *Fortunella margarita*. However, in China it means 'golden orange' and comes from the Cantonese gam gwat. The trees need heat to survive, which is why they're found across southern Europe, in addition to the southern states of the USA, South America and South Africa. They're usually quite small, which makes harvesting easy. What's more, they're often used as ornamental trees due to their eye-catching fruits, which are small and bright orange. This means that many people have them in their gardens or on their terraces. Your adoption is 19 years old and its productive life is around 40 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your kumquat tree produces an average of 10kg of organic kumquats each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2kg box of organic kumquats__ * Fortunella: ovoid shape, small size, orange colour, little pulp with acid taste, contains seeds * The kumquat is widely used in the preparation of jams and in sauces for meats; even though it's somewhat acidic, it can also be eaten whole, even unpeeled * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 60 and 70 fruits (the box contains between 120 and 140 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) In case you didn't know, you can eat them with the skin. Although our crops are organic and don't receive chemical treatments, we recommend rinsing them before eating as they may have some dust on them.
När får du det?
