Adopt a kiwi plant from the farm "Finca de la Abuela" in Valencia (Spanien) and receive your harvest in the form of organic kiwis at home. Loreto will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one kiwi plant is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt a kiwi plant from our farm in Valencia (Spanien). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2018. By adopting a kiwi plant on our farm, not only are you adopting a plant from which you'll receive fruit, but you're also adopting a piece of our land and our family history dating back several generations. Finca de la Abuela gained the organic farming certificate in 2018, which means that since 2015 we haven't used any herbicides, pesticides, chemical products, etc. on our farm, in our quest for a sustainable and environmentally friendly form of agriculture. Thanks to this way of farming and our team effort (Paco, Jose, my father and I), beautiful trees grow on the farm, forming tunnels that in October are filled with wonderful kiwis with an intense green pulp and a great flavour. This climbing plant from China was originally called Yang Tao, but after being cultivated for fifty years in New Zealand, it was renamed in 1959 due to its similarity to the country's most famous animal: the kiwi! The Finca de la Abuela farm is over two hundred years old and one of the first in which my father worked. Thanks to this family tradition, it's one of the most special and that's why we want to share it with you. Your adoption is 12 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your kiwi plant produces an average of 30kg of organic kiwis each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 6 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic kiwis__ * Green Hayward kiwi (October-December): a fruit with an emerald green pulp with numerous small seeds, while in the middle of the fruit is the cream-coloured core, which is also edible. Its completely fuzzy skin is light brown and the flavour achieves the perfect balance between sweet and tart * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2018 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * One kilo contains between 7 and 8 fruits (the box contains 35 fruits approximately, depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

We harvest our kiwis when they reach the optimal point of ripeness, as in when the fruit has the desired level of sugar. We normally start the harvest at the end of October and dispatch the kiwis up to December.
