You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spanien). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2021. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. My family has been growing mangos on our farm for more than three decades. We have three varieties: Tommy Atkins, Osteen and Keitt. These varieties are the most popular in the area and complement each other very well, as their harvests don't overlap. The first to ripen is the Tommy Atkins, late in the summer, followed by the Osteen in the autumn, and the Keitt at the end of autumn. Our mango trees are fully grown now, as my grandfather planted them in the 1980s. This was one of the first farms in the region to grow this delicious and exotic fruit. Visually, there aren't many differences between the trees. They're about three metres tall and their trunks are painted white to prevent diseases. Production can vary, but they tend to yield about fifteen kilos of fruit per season. The three varieties we grow come from Florida (USA) and originated in the first half of the twentieth century. Their names come from the people who discovered them, who left us a legacy that we can still enjoy today. The varieties then spread from Florida to other places such as Spain or South America. We grow our fruit meticulously, respectfully and organically. I'm the third generation involved in this beautiful job and I've been determined to modernise the farm. The two key points were receiving the organic certificate and changing the irrigation system, so as not to waste a single drop of water. Every year, I love getting the best reward for us all, which is to see the trees full of fruit and the consumers congratulating us on its great quality. Your adoption is 17 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your mango tree produces an average of 15kg of organic mangos each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __5kg box of organic mangos__ * Osteen (September-October): elongated oval shape; medium-large size; skin with a very characteristic purple hue and orange, yellow or greenish spots; low fibre content; pulp with a sweet flavour and a sour touch * Keitt (October-November): oval/oblong shape; large size; green and pink skin; low fibre content; pulp with a sweet flavour and a sour touch * Tommy Atkins (August - September): oval shape; medium size; smooth orange skin with a red blush; pulp with more fibres; and mildly sweet flavour * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2021 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 2 and 4 mangos * Keep them at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an already ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

Our mangos begin to reach the optimum point of ripeness at the end of summer, and we'll be able to extend the harvest until late October. The first variety we dispatch is Tommy Atkins, which is the earliest to ripen. Then we send out the Osteen mangos and, lastly, the Keitt variety.
