Adopt 1m² of a sweet potato field from "Famille Audema" in Vergèze (Frankrike) and receive your organic sweet potatoes at home. Pierre-Olivier will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt 1m² of a sweet potato field from our farm in Vergèze (Frankrike). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2018. We grow the Beauregard variety selected in the United States for its resistance to insects and diseases. The history of the sweet potato goes back a long way. It was brought from the 'New World' to Europe by Christopher Columbus. It is a perennial plant with a creeping stem that belongs to the Convolvulaceae family. It is a crop that likes warm, sunny climates. We buy the cuttings and transplant them between the beginning of May and June at approximately 30 cm intervals. We irrigate the crop with drip irrigation after planting and before harvest. Then for a month between June and July we stop irrigation to encourage good tuberisation. The roots thus seek to descend and lengthen in search of moisture. We manually weed once before the crop creepers cover the whole plot. We harvest by hand every 10 days between 15 August and the end of November before the first cold weather. We have been growing sweet potatoes since 2018 and are still learning every year! Each sweet potato field produces an average of 2.5kg of organic sweet potatoes per season.
Each season we will send you: __2.5kg box of organic sweet potatoes__ * Beauregard: its skin and pulp is orange, its shape is long, medium to large size and its taste is between potato, carrot, almond and chestnut with a sweetness between carrot and pumpkin * They are soft and tasty no matter how they are served; steamed, mashed, in soup, oven-fried or even in cakes! * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2018 * Shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each potato is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 2 and 3 sweet potatoes * If you keep them in a cool, dry place away from light, they can last up to 4 weeks in good condition
