You adopt 20m² of a herbal garden from our farm in Rohrbach an der Gölsen (Austria). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2020. Strawberry mint, sage, lavender, yarrow, lady's mantle, large thyme, wild thyme, lemon thyme, rosemary, marsh mallow, camomile and much more are flourishing here! Your herbs grow in the beautiful foothills of the Alps. The climate is harsh here, your herbs know that and therefore produce an abundance of extra active substances that help them to thrive. They grow on small hills, so-called ridges. The resulting microclimates also support health and growth. Your herbs are only fertilized sparingly, so they grow more slowly and can become even more intense. On most intensively farmed fields, the humus content is steadily decreasing. This has far-reaching consequences, not just for our climate. As without humus, there is no life on land. We wanted to do it differently: thanks to the loving treatment and careful tillage of the soil, there is a lively layer of humus under your herbs. More than 50,000,000,000,000 (50 trillion) creatures live in your 20m² of soil; to be precise: * 50 trillion bacteria, fungi and algae * 20 million roundworms * 2 million mites * and several million larger animals, such as rotifers, beetles, spiders, and earthworms Your herbal garden also offers habitat and food on the soil surface to countless insects such as butterflies, wild bees, grasshoppers or spiders and consequently many birds and mammals. In fact you are also adopting 20m² of biodiversity. This is also because we do not use any pesticides on your garden. We do not even use pesticides that are actually approved for organic farming with one exception: occasionally when aphids get too greedy: we use organic soft soap, which we produce ourselves. Each herbal garden produces an average of 0.24kg of organic herbal teas per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: * 1 x Max Frisch – __Organic Herbal Breakfast Tea__ (60g, Kraft paper zip-bag) * 1 x Fjodor Dostojewski – __Organic Happy Throat Tea__ (60g, Kraft paper zip-bag) * 1 x Marion Donovan – __Organic Happy Tummy Tea__ (60g, Kraft paper zip-bag) * 1 x Mahatma Gandhi – __Organic Evening Tea__ (60g, Kraft paper zip-bag) You will receive a year's supply of four different herbal teas for your herbal garden sponsorship. This corresponds to around 400 liters of finished tea, i.e. at least one liter of tea per day. The package contains a fresh herbal breakfast tea, a digestive stomach tea, a soothing tea for coughs and colds, and a calming evening tea. Thanks to our ingenious ‘recipes’, your teas possess a very well-rounded taste. To find out more, we list the ingredients for you and you can download the document below under the heading 'Additional Analyses'. __So what is special about the manufacturing process?__ The herbs and blossoms are collected and hand-picked by us. The sensitive essential oil cells are preserved on the leaves by gentle harvesting and drying and end up in the tea - where they belong! In contrast to teas that are machine harvested and processed, your herbal tea contains infinitely more essential oils and therefore a vastly superior taste. We do not use tasteless fillers (e.g. raspberry or blackberry leaves), you only get flavourful ingredients from us. The herbs and medicinal plants are dried in small quantities in a so-called tray dryer. For best possible results, the low temperature and degree of dryness are crucial. We therefore keep a close eye on the drying process to prevent the leaves from 'overdrying'. At exactly the right time, when the active ingredient content is at its highest, we take the dried leaves out of the dryer and process them further. How gentle this processing is, can be seen in the numerous very large leaves: the larger the leaf, the better the quality of the tea. The great range of colors of the herbs is thus also better preserved. __Preparing your teas: __Edelhof tea herbs are characterized by a particularly high yield, as we do not use the usual filler leaves. 0.6g of dried herbs (approximately one tablespoon) are enough for one liter of tea. __Packaging:__ The herbal teas are packaged in compostable paper packaging. The plastic used for the aroma seal consists of biopolymer, which is also 100% compostable. The tea will keep fresh for at least a year.
