Vad adopterar du?

You adopt a clementine tree from our farm in Valencia (Spanien) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2024. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your clementine tree. *Citrus reshni* is the scientific name of the tree that gives us the wonderful Nules clementines or clemenules, as we call them here. As many of you will know, citrus fruits date back approximately two thousand years to Southeast Asia, but clemenules are somewhat more 'modern'. At an orphanage in Oran (Algeria) back in 1890, a certain Father Clement Rodier and the orphans identified a new, tastier fruit among the trees in their garden, which they named Clement, in honour of this priest. This clementine is known to be the hybrid of the common mandarin and the sweet orange. But clemenules are even younger, as they first came about in 1953 when a clementine (the ones discovered by Father Clement) underwent a spontaneous mutation in the town of Nules, Castellón, just seventy kilometres from our farm, giving rise to the famous clemenules, a very tasty and easy-peeling clementine with an intense colour. Our trees are moderately vigorous, with large, light green leaves, and a staggered flowering, usually starting in late March. The flowering affects the fruits' size, the thickness of the peel and when they are in season. What's more, the fruits are less resistant than those of the orange tree, being particularly susceptible to late rainfall, which favours the growth of fungi. In May 2021, we took up a new challenge: to convert El Verger de Alicia to organic farming. Thanks to its climate and terrain, the farm offers optimal conditions for the development of this organic project. The farm is 100% organic, and it is herbicide-free. We control weeds mechanically, we only cut the grass in the summer months (so that it doesn't compete with the fruit trees), and we control pests with the help of insects. In your box you also receive delicious bananas grown by Luz Elena, the farmer at Finca la Mocanera. Although we would love to grow bananas, it is fortunate that we are not able to do so. To be able to grow bananas in Valencia would mean that global warming would have reached terrifying levels. Luz's bananas are grown on the island of La Palma, following EU standards of organic agriculture since 2018. They are grown in an environment that does not allow for mechanised farming, with extreme climatic conditions that mean that the banana needs 6 instead of 3 months on the plant, resulting in a more delicate, somewhat uglier and smaller, but undoubtedly much tastier banana. Your adoption is 7 years old and its maximum lifespan is 30 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your clementine tree produces an average of 40kg of clementines and organic Canary Island bananas from Spain each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

Vad får du?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __Mixed box of 3kg clementines and 1kg organic Canary Island bananas from Spain__ * Clemenules: medium-sized; seedless; easy to peel; sweet flavour; high juice content; and segments with a pleasant texture * Canary Island bananas: a sweeter and more aromatic flavour than other bananas, with dark speckles on the skin * Box contains products cultivated by two farmers of CrowdFarming * Clementines: cultivated on the Verger de Alicia, farming in transition to organic farming since 2021 * Bananas: cultivated on finca Mocanera, organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2018 * Harvested on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The skin of the Canary Island banana is very sensitive and blackens easily when knocked or in low temperatures; however, the black specks on the skin aren't a sign of rot * One kilo of clementines contains between 8 and 12 fruits * One kilo of bananas contains between 5 and 8 fruits * If the clementines are kept in a cool, well-ventilated place, they will keep in good condition for up to 15 days * The banana is a climacteric fruit, i.e. it is harvested when it has reached physiological ripeness but continues to develop after harvesting; it has not been subjected to artificial post-ripening * Depending on how ripe you receive the bananas, they will keep for about 7 days in good condition. If you want them to last longer, you can store them in the fridge

När får du det?

We harvest our clementines from late November to mid-December. The exact dates may vary depending on the weather in each season.
