Adopt a vegetable patch from "Bio Hof Marco Jostmeier" in Delbrück (Tyskland) and receive your harvest in the form of mixed Bioland organic vegetables at home. Marco will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a vegetable patch that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2020. Adopt 4m² of our new “Market Garden” which we manage in accordance with EC organic regulations and Bioland guidelines – we completed the certification process in autumn 2020 after 2 years of conversion. We grow our vegetables (lettuce, kohlrabi, beetroot, tomato, cucumber, rocket, yellow + green courgettes, peppers, onions, spring onions, Cape gooseberries, chard, fennel, carrots, French beans) according to the market gardening principle, a "bio-intensive" vegetable patch. We don’t buy plants, we grow everything ourselves. All our seeds are certified by German organic farming associations, and we have selected weatherproof varieties that are suited to our location. Tim primarily looks after the Market Garden, while Tjorben mainly takes care of packaging and marketing, and Marco manages the fields and animals. __Where did this idea come from?__ The market gardening principle originated in the capital of France. The idea was born in the 18th century, when many small farmers began supplying individual families in Paris and even beyond the city walls throughout the year. What made it distinct was that the farmers grew their vegetables as productively as possible on several small areas. In fact, it was so successful that some of the harvest could be exported to Dover in the United Kingdom. The areas were very small and resources scarce, so the farmers had to use them “bio-intensively”. This meant that farmers had to build up their soil quality and quantity over time, promoting soil life in order to produce more, better and more diverse. They sowed plants closer and closer together in order to harvest a lot more vegetables from a somewhat smaller area. This made the nutrient-rich, thick topsoil important. And also reduced the workload enormously. As a rule, when growing vegetables, you spend a lot of time removing weeds; in market gardening, they have much less opportunities to come through as the plants are closer together. To achieve this, cultivation is carried out exclusively by hand. Large machines are rarely found with this type of cultivation. __And how do we do it?__ We can harvest up to eight different types of vegetables from your patch every 4 weeks, that is about 2 - 4 kg of organic vegetables every 4 weeks. For your delivery calendar, you should ideally plan your 3 deliveries 4 weeks apart. Since August 2018 we have been cultivating all of our areas with conviction and passion in accordance with strict Bioland Association guidelines. So your vegetables will never see pesticides or mineral fertilizers in their lifetime. The area of our vegetable garden is roughly as big as the plot of a detached house (approx. 450 m²). This is divided into 29 individual patches, on which up to 29 different crops will grow this year. We have selected 18 of them for our CrowdFarming project this year.
This season, we will send you three boxes on the delivery date you choose: 2 - 3 kg __seasonal Bioland organic vegetables__ (plastic-free packaging, recyclable cardboard) Your vegetable box will contain lettuce, kohlrabi, beetroot, tomato, cucumber, rocket, yellow and green courgettes, peppers, onions, spring onions, Cape gooseberries, chard, fennel, carrots and French beans from our Market Garden. __You can see which vegetables are ready which week in the PDF table under “Additional analyses”__. The value of the vegetable box remains the same over the weeks, the contents and accordingly the weight will fluctuate over the harvest season. Please note that we do not have a crystal ball that predicts the exact ripening process of our vegetables and that there may be variations in exceptional circumstances. You will receive your vegetables partially cleaned. We therefore recommend that you wash the vegetables again shortly before use. __What is the best way to store my vegetables?__ Storage suggestions vary depending on the type of vegetable, as each vegetable requires a different environment. __French beans, spring onions and cucumbers__ prefer the coolness of the refrigerator. It's also best to store __lettuce__ in the refrigerator so that it stays fresh and crisp. If your lettuce is a few days old, remove the older leaves before serving. __Kohlrabi__ will keep the longest in a cool place. The refrigerator is too moist for kohlrabi. We recommend you do not eat kohlrabi peel. You can store __carrots__ in a cool place or in the refrigerator. If you store carrots in the refrigerator, avoid condensation where possible as the carrots will spoil more quickly. It is best to prepare __chard and fennel__ as quickly as possible. Until it is prepared, you should wrap chard and fennel in a damp cloth and store in the refrigerator. Chard leaves are prepared in a similar way to spinach. If you want to freeze fennel for extended storage, we recommend blanching it beforehand. You should consume __rocket__ as quickly as possible. It is best to store rocket in its packaging in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat it. __Cape gooseberries, peppers and courgettes__ should be stored in a cool place, ideally at a temperature between 8 and 12°C. You should only remove the shell of the Cape gooseberry shortly before consumption. We recommend you consume courgettes as soon as possible. If you can’t find a suitable storage place, the refrigerator’s vegetable drawer can be an alternative. __Tomatoes__ keep the longest at room temperature, away from other vegetables and fruit, in a bowl or something similar, in a place which is as airy and shady as possible. Tomatoes must never be stored in the refrigerator, as they they will lose their taste. If a tomato is bruised during transport, eat it first and remove the area with a knife if necessary. It is best to store __onions__ in a dry, airy, and slightly darker place. Avoid eating onions that are already turning green or sprouting a lot. __Beetroot__ is best stored in the refrigerator unwashed and wrapped in a damp cloth. You can remove any soil on the beetroot by tapping it lightly before storage.

We will pick your vegetables every 14 days from June to September and always send them harvest fresh. We recommend that you choose your delivery dates in four-week intervals so that you can experience the entire vegetable season with all its different varieties. You also give the other CrowdFarmers a chance to get the widest possible range of varieties for their deliveries.
