Adopt an apple tree from the "Azienda Agricola Rossi" farm in Cles (Italien) and receive your organic apples and pears at home. Marco will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt an apple tree from our farm in Cles (Italien). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 1982. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apple tree. The apple tree is a tree that has been cultivated since ancient times and the Italian term 'mela' ('apple') is already found in ancient languages: the late Latin *melum* comes from the ancient Greek 'μλλον' (read: melon). The apple varieties that have come to us are the result of endless selections. On our farm we grow some of the oldest varieties, including the Renetta apple, which has French origins and was grown in the Non Valley already at the end of the 1800s, the beautiful Boskoop apple, grown in Holland in 1856 and also modern varieties, such as Gala and Fuji. The Gala is a very popular apple that was selected in the 1930s in New Zealand, while the Fuji, although it was also selected in the 1930s, has only become widespread in the last 20 years. We mainly use two types of planting forms: open canopy and rows. Typical open canopy planting entails 10 metres between the trees, very important spacing that was traditionally used for the other subsistence crops of the 'farmhouse'. The canopies of the trees can reach up to 10 metres, requiring very high ladders and a lot of patience for harvesting. Today we still have several Renetta apple trees that are over 100 years old and Louise Bonne and Bosc pears over 70 years old that follow this planting method. The modern guyot row system, on the other hand, involves a sixth of the dense plant with the branches of the tree that cover the space between one plant and the next. This system makes it easier to prune, harvest and in general makes all operations safer. This method makes it possible to use land with steep slopes without having to build roads for tractors, so it has less environmental impact than other modern mechanised systems. You will adopt an apple tree, but you will receive a box with pears as well, because it is the other fruit that our farm is known for. Your adoption is 31 years old and its maximum lifespan is 50 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. By adopting an apple tree you can receive up to 2.7kg of organic apples and pears each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 1 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __Box of approximately 2.7kg of organic apples and pears__ * Apple varieties: Gala, Pinova, Stark Delicious, Renetta, Renoir, Belle de Boskoop, Golden * Pear varieties: Williams, Bosc pears, Spadona and Louise Bonne * Each variety of apple and pear has its own unique characteristics; we will prepare a box, always putting two varieties of apples and one pear variety as indicated above * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 1992 * Contrary to other fruits, apples cannot be harvested gradually and need to be harvested all at once when having reached their full maturity; in order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Some fruits have spots on the skin: this is an aesthetic defect is called 'scab' and occurs due to a fungus of the seed fruits. Some of our orchards grow old varieties (such as the Spadona pear) that are not resistant to this fungus and the trees are so tall and in such steeply sloping plots that no treatment is possible; the quality of the fruit, however, is not affected * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * Mixed box with approx. 1.8kg of apples and 0.9kg of pears * One kilo contains between 6 and 7 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last a 14 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)
