Adopt a cow of the flock of "Auenhof" in Telgte (Tyskland) and receive your harvest in the form of Birgits mix of spicy farm cheese at home. Birgit will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one cow is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a cow from our farm in Telgte (Tyskland). You can adopt one of our dairy cows. We keep Holstein Friesian cattle (Black and Red) on our farm as well as Fleckvieh. In terms of selection and their genetics, we focus on robustness and health, which is more important to us than the highest possible milk yield. We also optimize our husbandry and keeping conditions to allow our cows a healthy and comfortable life. But even if we opt for farm-own, balanced and fiber-rich animal feed, for pasturage on grass whenever possible, for health instead of maximum performance, and for homeopathy, we do not have the organic label. For us, “nature does not have a label”. Our whole philosophy is orientated towards an organic and natural production and processing. However, we deliberately renounce certification since it does not correspond to our idea of a holistic approach to food production and livestock farming. Depending on the seasons, our dairy cows have daily access to pasturage and, thus, they benefit from a regular exposure to the sun and fresh air. The modern and open cowshed as well as extended access to pasturage have a positive impact on animal health. Natural livestock farming means to us that we take on the full moral responsibility for animal welfare from the first day till the last day in the life of an animal. All animals always have fresh fodder from our farm, fresh and clear water from our own well and, depending on the climatic conditions, extended access to pasturage. This positively influences the quality of milk we work with. We take the needs of the animals seriously. Thus, the calves born in our cowshed stay with their mothers for around two weeks in the shed together with more recently born calves around two weeks, before the whole group of calves (“friends”) move out together. We consider the cow as a social herd animal – and herd animals should never be alone. Life for us is, amongst other things, the movement of energy between all parties involved. We are convinced that good products can only be the result of respect and love shown for everyone involved. We do not participate in beauty or performance contests – neither with our animals nor with our products. The approval of our customers, who can always see and visit our animals, is enough recognition for us. The average age of our cows is approx. 7 years, but many animals get much older. In a small nearby family-run business, the animals are then turned into meat products for our farm shop. Your adoption has a productive life of around 10 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. We have approx. 45 ha of land which is divided into arable land and grassland for our own fodder production as well as into pasture for livestock farming. We rear our female calves so that they become dairy cows, while we hand over our male calves to a nearby fattening farm. Your adoption produces an average of 8000l of cow milk each season. With this amount we can produce around 800kg of Birgits mix of spicy farm cheese. 200 CrowdFarmers share an adoption who receive a box with 2kg of Birgits mix of spicy farm cheese.
Each season we will send you a box with: 1 x __“Auenkäse”__ (“river meadow cheese”) (approx. 1000g, vacuum-wrapped) 1 x__ Truffle cheese__ (approx. 333g, vacuum-wrapped) 1 x__ Pepper cheese__ (approx. 333g, vacuum-wrapped) 1 x __Rocket cheese__ (approx. 333g, vacuum-wrapped) Since we cut everything to size by hand, the pieces may slightly vary in terms of their weight (e.g. 300g – 400g – 300g of the herb cheeses). The “Auenkäse” is a mild and creamy cheese that is good for breakfast. It is a modified basic Gouda recipe. With the pepper cheese, we cook out the whole peppercorns beforehand, so that the whole cheese tastes of pepper. This taste is very pleasant and not too intense. Our truffle cheese is a dream! The truffle note comes out very well, but is not too strong. The rocket cheese is a milder herb cheese that is also great for breakfast. The master boxes are made of cardboard and if temperatures require it, we will insulate them with pressed and sustainably produced hemp sheets from the company Landpack. The unopened, vacuum-wrapped cheese has a shelf life of two months. After opening it, it should be consumed within two weeks. At the same time, it is important that the products are stored in a refrigerator. The lower the temperature is, the longer their shelf life gets. All our manually produced delicacies are made with pasteurised full-cream milk – as naturally as possible. Accordingly, we renounce unnecessary additives and preservatives so that our products have a particular and incomparable taste – a taste of freshness, nature and careful preparation. We can produce all our products for the CrowdFarmers all year round. Due to the high temperatures during the summer months we do not offer shipment dates. We send the cheese out once in autumn and once in spring.
