Adopt a beehive from the "Arancebio" apiary in Francofonte (Italien) and receive your orange blossom honey at home. Danilo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one beehive is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a beehive from our apiary in Francofonte (Italien). Adopting one of our hives means supporting a beekeeper's work. Our bees belong to the Buckfast and Ligustica breeds, known for being very gentle and docile. The apiary has been set up in the middle of a large expanse of blood orange trees cultivated with organic farming techniques. These trees of the Tarocco and Moro varieties provide a source of nectar for no fewer than 30 million bees, including ours, since the hives are located in cultivation-free areas within a radius of 3km from the farm. That's why we can also be sure that our bees don't feed on potentially treated plants. We constantly keep the pesticide levels in our honey under control through laboratory analysis, so as to always guarantee the finest quality. The hive we use consists of movable panels or frames of different sizes and thicknesses. The particularity that distinguishes them is that inside they are all made up of movable wooden frames to separate the various parts of the hive into many small sections without which the hive would grow to form a single block that would make it impossible to extract the honey without destroying the comb. The bees live all year round in the huge citrus field, but the hives are moved from one part of the property to another so as to pollinate as many flowers as possible. The bees' work only decreases in the short winter period, when they rest inside the hives. Out of respect for the bees and their work, we only collect part of the honey they produce, leaving a large amount in the hives so that they can feed during the winter. A worker bee has a life expectancy of 5-6 weeks, while that of a queen bee is between 3 and 5 years. Fun fact: if and when the queen dies, the bees can install a new queen from a fresh brood (i.e. larvae less than 3 days old). A colony of bees is therefore immortal and constantly renewing itself. Each beehive produces an average of 25kg of orange blossom honey per season. 10 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 2.4kg of orange blossom honey.
Each season we will send you a box with: 6 x __orange blossom honey__ (400g each, glass jar) This orange blossom honey is produced exclusively with orange blossoms, also known in Italian as Zagara, which comes from the Arabic "Zahr", meaning "flower", and "Zahara", which can be translated as "white". Orange blossom honey has a pale straw yellow colour. It is notable for crystallising quickly and remaining liquid for only a short time. In any case, if you prefer it to be liquid, you can use the water bath technique. Whatever its form, honey is a non-perishable product, so it does not have a maximum shelf life. However, bear in mind that three years after harvesting it loses its flavour and nutritional qualities. Our honey can be consumed in different ways: delicious on biscuits, to enhance desserts or as a special touch in your dishes – our creamy honey makes a great addition every time!
När får du det?
The honey is harvested in summer, decanted for about a month and bottled in jars in autumn. You will receive your package of orange blossom honey in December and March.
