Adopt 2m² of a crocus field from "Safran étoilé" in Durrenentzen (Frankrijk) and receive your harvest in the form of saffron Terroir d'Alsace at home. Marc will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt 2m² of a crocus field from our farm in Durrenentzen (Frankrijk). The history of saffron in its cultivation and use goes back more than 3,500 years. Originally from the Orient, saffron crossed the Pyrenees to finally arrive in France and Alsace. It was widely used everywhere in France and especially in Alsace until the Renaissance, but fell into oblivion from the 18th century. In the early 2010s, the cultivation of crocuses was relaunched in France by a few enthusiasts. Our great adventure begins in 2014, when we decided to create our crocus plantation in Durrenentzen in Alsace. We planted our “*crocus sativus*” on a plot that was previously fallow. The ground in Durrenentzen is naturally composed of stones and pebbles from the historic floods of the Rhin before it was channeled. The presence of these pebbles allows the soil to accumulate heat and evacuate excess moisture, which makes it particularly suitable for growing saffron. We practice a biodynamic culture and do not use any chemicals. This nature-friendly cultivation technique requires digging up our bulbs every 4 to 5 years and replanting them on a new plot to prevent soil depletion. Saffron cultivation requires a lot of patience since all operations, from weeding to harvesting, are carried out manually. Each crocus field produces an average of 0,01kg of saffron Terroir d'Alsace per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 1 x __saffron étoilé Terroir d'Alsace__ (1g, glass jar) We will send you a package containing 1 gram of saffron pistils from 2021 which represents approximately 500 saffron pistils. Our saffron is distinguished by its intense red color and its aromatic power. The overall taste is mainly composed of floral notes. The saffron is ready to use. In dosage, it takes 2 to 3 pistils per plate and per person. It can be combined with a savory dish (sauce, fish, scallops, white meat, etc.) or with a sweet dish (cream, fruit tart, cakes, etc.) The saffron is packaged in a small airtight glass jar and can be stored for 2 years after harvest. It should be stored in a spice cabinet, protected from light and moisture.

You will receive your package at the end of November. The harvest takes place from the end of September to the end of October. The flowers are harvested daily and the saffron pistils contained in the flowers are dried the same day. After drying, the saffron enters its maturation phase which allows the taste of the spice to develop. It is then weighed and packaged in small glass jars, ready to be tasted.
