Adopt a kiwi plant from the "Quinta dos Reis" farm in Anadia (Portugal) and receive your organic red kiwi at home. Mauro will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a kiwi plant from our farm in Anadia (Portugal). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2018. These days, there are many varieties of the kiwi, each of them producing a different coloured fruit, whether red, green or yellow. In this case you have the possibility of adopting a kiwi tree (*Actinidia chinensis*) of the Red Kibi Rossy variety, which every November gives us a kiwi with a greenish-yellow flesh around the outside and a dark red/burgundy centre. We grow our crop under European Union organic farming regulations, striving to close the circle and minimise the use of resources and reduce waste. To do so, we use sheep, geese, ducks and a composting area. The kiwi is a climbing plant, so it needs the help of a structure to grow. It forms a beautiful tunnel full of vegetation where we can see flowers, fruits or bare branches, depending on the time of year. We cover the soil on the farm with legumes that provide nitrogen and prevent water evaporation, thereby reducing our water footprint. What's more, we have the help of a flock of endangered native sheep that help us trim these plant covers and fertilise our fields. We complement this fertilisation by making compost on the farm with manure from neighbouring organic farms. All plant material from pruning, trimming or cutting back the plants is left on the ground as a natural fertiliser. Your adoption is 5 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your kiwi plant produces an average of 2.5kg of organic red kiwi each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 1 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. We harvest our kiwis at the optimal point of ripeness, normally between the last week of October and the first week of December, when the fruit has exactly the right level of sugar. Afterwards, we store the kiwis in a chamber to send you the harvest from your tree between November and February
