You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a pear tree that we cultivate following the Organic Farming since 2009 and Demeter regulations of the European Union since 2020. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your pear tree. The Williams pear is the one that is most cultivated worldwide. It originated in the United Kingdom. Listed in 1796, this pear variety is both old and rustic. It also occurs under the name of Bartlett (in the USA) or as Williams Bon Chrétien. Our pear orchards are ideally located in the south-east of France. This enables us to carry out the earliest harvesting in Europe. The oldest ones were planted in 1950. Some are still standing. They yield less fruit, but what a delicious taste! Our crop managers constantly monitor the technical aspects and study the orchards' ecosystem so as to encourage biodiversity. Various environmentally friendly production techniques are used. In particular, natural pollination takes place, since we have set up beehives in the orchards. The hives are sheltered from the prevailing winds and are exposed to the rising sun so that the bees become active at daybreak and set off on their mission. Pollination is the process whereby pollen is transported to the pistil and fertilises the trees. The bee is thus essential to fertilise the pear tree blossom and turn it into fruit: no bees, no pears! You adopt a tree of the Williams variety, but you may also have the chance to discover other varieties (depending on the harvest calendar): the Guyot pear flourishes under the Provençal sun and is typical of our terroir. As for the Packham's pear, native to Australia, it is spreading more and more in our region because of the quality it offers. The productive life of a pear tree is around 35 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your pear tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. A pear tree from our farm produces an average of 20kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 4 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: A 5kg box of __organic Demeter pears__ * Guyot: It is a fruit with fragrant, sweet and juicy flesh. Its juice is also very useful for making ice cream or other smoothies, and it blends perfectly with chocolate. * Williams: As good raw as cooked, its flesh is tender, juicy and very sweet. Its thirst-quenching and refreshing quality is a plus. * Packham's: Its lumpy appearance takes you by surprise, but that does nothing to impair its good taste. This variety has a thick skin and a white, fine, juicy and tangy flesh that is not very sweet; it will delight you both raw and cooked. These varieties can be kept for 2-3 weeks in a cool and ventilated place or, even better, in the refrigerator so as to extend their storage life. If you like tender pears, let them ripen for 3-4 days at room temperature, but avoid making a heap of them, since pears are delicate fruit. Our Guyot, Williams and Packham's varieties are picked from July to October and ripen until December. You will receive a single-variety package depending on the harvest periods for our different varieties, i.e. the Guyot variety is the earliest and will be available from mid-July to mid-September. The Williams variety will be available from mid-September to mid-November and the Packham's variety from mid-November to December.
