Adopt a melon plot from "Finca Quixote" in Llanos del Caudillo (Spanje) and receive your harvest in the form of Demeter organic melon at home. Carlos will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Wat adopteer je?

Adopt a melon plot (6,5m²) that we cultivate under the Organic Farming and Demter regulations of the European Union since 2016. Finca Quixote was founded in 2001 on the basis of two fundamental pillars: respect for the land and the search for innovation in growing food. Accordingly, we obtained our first organic certificate in 2003 and today we cultivate our land under Demeter regulations. *Cucumis melo* is the scientific name of the plant that produces the melon, one of the most refreshing fruits in the hot summer months. We grow two varieties, the Canary Yellow and the Santa Claus, but they're very similar agronomically. It’s a climbing plant that dates back thousands of years, with Egyptian paintings from 2,400 BC depicting the fruit. This crop is believed to have spread from Asia to the Mediterranean Basin, where it was popularised by Alexander the Great in Ancient Greece. Nowadays, it's one of the most important crops in Spain. In the portion of the plot that you adopt, we grow two of the best melon varieties: Canary Yellow and Santa Claus. We sow at a higher planting density than usual to produce a much smaller fruit that concentrates all its flavour in a more convenient and manageable format, compared to the enormous melons that we're used to. The melon requires about 5.500 m³/h of water to grow properly. If we don't get enough rainfall, we use a drip irrigation system to guarantee your harvest. We use water responsibly, implementing a probe system that tells us when and how much to water each plot. Following our goal to “close the circle”, we carry out periodic crop rotations, minimise waste as much as possible, and reuse our waste with the help of both our animals and those of nearby farmers and our compost area. A melon plot from our farm produces an average of 36kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.

Wat krijg je?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 6 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __3kg box of Demeter organic Santa Claus melon + 3kg of Demeter organic Canary Yellow melon__ * Santa Claus melon (July-September): oval in shape and green rind, with a pale green and slightly yellowish flesh. Compact, sweet and tasty, with a high water content * Canary Yellow melon (July-September): oval shape and an intense yellow rind. Very tasty, with a flesh similar to the Santa Claus melon. Sweet, tasty and refreshing * Biodynamic farming certified by the Demeter label since 2016 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * 1 piece weighs between 1 and 3kg (in the box you'll receive 1-3 melons of each variety) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) You can eat melon at any time. We love it to share it outdoors surrounded by family or friends, but you can also pair it with other fruits or salads.

Wanneer ontvang je het?

When we grow fruits and vegetables, we try to organise the sowing dates to stagger the harvest and offer you the freshest product. In our case, we start sowing in spring to offer you melons from June to September, depending on the weather conditions each year.
