Het project

Adopt a quinoa plant stock from "Finca Pepito" in Ayacucho (Peru) and receive your harvest in the form of organic quinoa at home. Fredy will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Wat adopteer je?

Adopt a quinoa plant stock that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2019. We invite you to adopt 80m² of our Andean Organic Quinoa plantation and to collaborate with our sustainable project that contributes socio-economically to many families in our community. Our 20-hectare farm is located in Ayacucho in the Huamanga province which is situated in the Chiara District, Peru. We are on the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains, at 3,300 meters above sea level from where you can appreciate plenty of natural vegetation and wildlife. We are the fourth generation of our family working on these lands. The quinoa is a native grain from the Andes. According to the FAO, "historical evidence indicates that the first quinoa crops may have grown in the region between 3,000 and 5,000 years B.C.". The Incas called it the "golden grain" for the richness of its nutritional properties. Unlike the quinoa cultivated in the rest of the world nowadays, ours is ancestral, native and grows in the best soil with the most optimal conditions of altitude, temperature, and moisture. Quinoa (in Quechua language “Kinwa”) means “mother grain”. It is considered a pseudo-cereal, which means that it’s not a cereal, but it is used as if it was. Its nutritional values are outstanding. The lack of gluten makes it valuable for celiac people. These lands have been cultivated by our family for the past 4 generations. My brothers and I have been involved for 5 years. In 2019 we were certified in Organic Farming and recently obtained the Fair Trade Certification. Our farming is done with the utmost respect for the environment seeking that our activity has the minimum impact on our planet and that the natural resources stay free of contamination. In this way we want to ensure the quality of our products and the productivity of our lands for future generations. Each quinoa plant stock bears an average of 8kg of organic quinoa per season.

Wat krijg je?

Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __Organic white quinoa__ (2kg, kraft paper package) 1 x __Organic red quinoa__ (2kg, kraft paper package) 1 x __Organic black quinoa__ (2kg, paper package) We send you three varieties of quinoa with all the characteristic flavor of this Andean pseudocereal with hints of walnut and almond. __Organic white quinoa__: This is the best-known variety of quinoa and the one that best adapts to different types of recipes. Once cooked, it acquires a light and fluffy texture. Its flavor is the most neutral and easy to combine with other ingredients. It is typically used to prepare soups, stews, sauteed dishes, salads and even desserts. __Organic red quinoa__: This is a highly nutritious quinoa. It is best-known for its richness in folic acid, fiber and carbohydrates. Its texture is firmer than that of white quinoa and its flavor is more intense. It is ideal for fresh salads and soups. __Organic black quinoa__: This is crunchier than white quinoa. It retains a slight earthy flavor that makes it very special. It pairs well with seafood. Keep the quinoa in a cool and dry place and consume it within 24 months after its harvest.

Wanneer ontvang je het?

The sowing of organic quinoa takes place between November and December and the harvest between May and June. The first variety of quinoa to harvest is the red followed by the white and finally the black one. Once we harvest, dry, clean and select the quinoa grains, we prepare, pack and deliver the Andean Quinoa Box to your house as quickly as possible to ensure the freshness of our product.
