Adopt a cherry tree from the farm "Finca Nina" in Calatayud (Spanje) and receive your organic cherries at home. Pere will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt a cherry tree from our farm in Calatayud (Spanje). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2011. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your cherry tree. It's difficult to pinpoint the origin of something as old as the cherry, but there's evidence that it was being used in the year 6,000 BC to make liqueurs. It's thought to come from Asia Minor, from where it spread to the rest of Asia and Europe thanks to migratory birds and human travel. The sweet cherry has its origin in a wild plant, Prunus avium, a fruit tree that was much appreciated by the Greeks and the Romans, who ended up spreading and sharing the techniques to grow this crop. The tree belongs to the Rosaceae family and to the Prunus genus (which also includes apricot, peach and nectarine trees). Finca Nina is a project based on sustainability and the responsible use of resources to produce every single cherry, which is why we were certified in organic farming in 2011. On our farm, we take advantage of every drop of water by drip irrigating only when the trees need it, all thanks to a system of probes. What’s more, we let cover crops grow naturally among the trees and incorporate pruning remains into the rows between the trees. We grow different varieties of cherry using a staggered production that helps us reduce the risk of inclement weather (frost and storms), distribute work on the farm, and guarantee quality fruit. We grow the Lapins, Santina, Satin, Chelan, Skeena, Somerset, Kordia, Regina and Summer Charm varieties. Your cherry tree produces an average of 12kg of organic cherries each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

Wat krijg je?

Wanneer ontvang je het?

The weather has a huge influence when it comes to growing cherries. Harvest losses due to late frosts or summer storms are unfortunately very common with this crop. If everything goes well, we can send out cherries in the months of May, June and July.
