Adopt an olive tree from the farm "Finca Charca El Poleo" in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje) and receive your organic olives at home. Jose María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic olives and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt an olive tree from our farm in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2012. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your olive tree. The olive tree as we know it (*Olea Europea*) belongs to the genus *Olea*, of the Oleaceae family. Its crown is wide, and its leaves are evergreen. It is an exceptionally long-lived tree thanks to its great capacity for growing roots and shoots. Its existence dates back to 1200 BC, as the wild olive tree of Asia Minor. However, the specific origin of the domesticated olive tree is unknown, although it possibly expanded from the Caucasus to Iran and the Mediterranean area. The olive tree was marginally introduced in Spain by the Phoenicians (1050 BC) until Romanisation, which was very influential in our area as we are very close to the Roman city Colonia lulia Augusta Emerita, founded in 25 BC, which is a World Heritage Site today. We grow different varieties of olive trees on the farm, specifically the Arbequina and Picual. The Arbequina variety has become one of the most hedge cultivations in recent years due to its good adaptability to small plantation frames. It is thought that this variety is of Catalan origin, although there are indications that it was introduced from Palestine in the 18th century, as the Arbeca people (its namesake) were the first to cultivate it. The Picual variety is the most important in our country due to its great adaptability to the area, good management and quality. It is believed to be a variety native to Spain, although it is difficult to precisely determine its origin. We will dedicate a part of the harvest of these to the production of table olives and another part to the production of oil. Preparing table olives is not easy since they have to be harvested by hand while paying close attention to their quality and their state of maturity. It is quite a laborious process, although, without a doubt, a worthwhile one given the taste of the olives. Although I am the fourth generation of an olive-growing family, and table olives have always been made for our own consumption, up until 2021 we had only dedicated ourselves to the production of olive oil. However, we decided to take the leap and make table olives with the help of a nearby company that is an expert in this sort of preparation. Your adoption is 12 years old and its productive life is 100 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your olive tree produces an average of 1.2kg of organic olives each season.

Wat krijg je?

Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __Arbequina green olives__ (200g, drained weight, glass jar) 2 x __Picual green and black olives__ (200g, drained weight, glass jar) 2 x __Picual green seasoned olives__ (200g, drained weight, glass jar) __Arbequina green olives__ are pitted olives which have a deep green colour and are small to medium in size. Prepared naturally, with no seasoning, they have a great flavour and a slightly bitter finish - ideal for aperitifs. The __mix of picual green and black olives__ contains pitted olives. In addition to the green Arbequina olive, it also contains black olives with a tender texture, which are of a medium size and are black in colour due to their maturation, which also provides a softer and sweeter flavour, with a slightly spicy finish. They are ideal both as an aperitif and in salads. The__ green, seasoned picual olive__ is a pitted olive with a firm texture which is of a medium size. It is seasoned with garlic, oil, vinegar and spices. These olives are very aromatic, with a mild flavour and a mix of sour and bitter notes.

Wanneer ontvang je het?

We harvest the olives between October and November. We then prepare our preserves in order to send them to you as soon as possible, normally during the month of December. As they are non-perishable products, we can send them to you every month, while supplies last.
