Adopt an apricot tree from the farm "Finca Charca El Poleo" in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje) and receive your organic apricots at home. Jose María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time in case the preparation has not started yet.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt an apricot tree from our farm in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2015. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apricot tree. Like peach, nectarine, plum and almond trees, the apricot tree belongs to the genus Prunus in the Rosaceae family, and its scientific name is *Prunus armenaica*. This tree, like many others cultivated in our country, is native to the temperate zones of Asia, with references to its cultivation in China dating back to 3000 B.C. In Europe, it was introduced by the Romans, who discovered it on their trade routes with Asia, in particular with Armenia, and from there spread its cultivation throughout the Mediterranean basin. It is a deciduous tree, not very tall, and has a beautiful early flowering (March-April) that stains our farms with white and pink, but this earliness means that every year the risk of frost on the flowers is very high. The flowering date also defines when we will get the fruit, and in order to reduce the risk of frost and extend the harvest period, we grow the varieties Flopria, Floneca, Oscar and Mambo on our farm, this being their order of harvest. What's more, as our commitment to the environment entails more than simply gaining certificates, we carry out additional operations beyond the requirements of the regulatory council, such as fostering biodiversity by using mowed plant covers to make mulch and having our own worm composting zone to take advantage of plant waste and fertilise our trees. When we planted the apricot trees, we wanted to focus on two key aspects for us: soil erosion and water optimization. That's why we planted our trees following the contours of the terrain, thereby avoiding strong water currents that would cause major erosion. If you're interested, you can come to see our farm and observe the distribution of this crop due to contour farming. Your adoption is 7 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your apricot tree produces an average of 20kg of organic apricots each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

Wat krijg je?

You can reserve between 0 and 0 boxes for the season, and then progressively plan theit delivery for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. __Shipping format: 2kg box of organic apricots__ * Flopria (early-mid May): orange-red colour, firm, tasty and aromatic fruit, with a hint of sourness; medium to large sizes (depending on the year), oval and round shape * Floneca (mid-May - early June): orange-red colour; firm fruit, balanced flavour, aromatic; medium-large sizes (depending on the year), round-oval shape * Mambo (early-mid June): firm fruit, balanced flavour, tasty and very aromatic; medium to large sizes (depending on the year), elongated shape * Oscar (mid-late June): firm, very tasty and aromatic fruit: medium-large sizes (depending on the year), round shape * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2015 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * One kilo contains between 15 and 20 fruits (the box contains between 30 and 40 fruits depending on the size) * It is a climacteric fruit that will continue to ripen once you receive it * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 7 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

Wanneer ontvang je het?

We usually start the apricot harvest in the month of May and continue until June. As each year is different, we'll adapt the delivery dates as best as we can.
