Adopt a plum tree from the farm "Finca Charca El Poleo" in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje) and receive your harvest in the form of organic plums at home. Jose María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt a plum tree from our farm in Granja de Torrehermosa (Spanje) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2015. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your plum tree. There's a huge variety of plum trees in the world, with the most cultivated being the European species (*Prunus Domestica*) and the Japanese species (*Prunus Salicina*), which are the ones we grow here at Finca El Poleo. The Japanese plum is actually native to China, where it was first grown more than 2,300 years ago. However, the Japanese gave prominence to this crop and it soon spread across the world, which is why today it's known as the Japanese plum. Most plum varieties are self-incompatible, which means that the plum blossom needs pollen from a plum of a different variety in order to bear fruit. That's why we grow different varieties of __red plum__ (Fortuna and Laetitia), __black plum__ (Black Beauty, Black Splendour and Angelino), and __yellow plum__ (Golden Globe and Sun Gold), which we alternate in rows of each variety. This makes it easier for the bees in our hives and other insects to successfully pollinate our trees by continually moving from one variety to another. What's more, as our commitment to the environment entails more than simply gaining certificates, we carry out additional operations beyond the requirements of the regulatory council, such as fostering biodiversity by using mowed plant covers to make mulch and having our own worm composting zone to take advantage of plant waste and fertilise our trees. When we planted the plum trees, we wanted to focus on two key aspects for us: soil erosion and water optimisation. That's why we planted our trees following the contours of the terrain, thereby avoiding strong water currents that would cause major erosion. If you're interested, you can come to see our farm and observe the distribution of this crop due to contour farming. Your adoption is 6 years old and its productive life is around 25 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 22.5kg of organic plums each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

Wat krijg je?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 4 boxes, which can be increased up to 9 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __2,5kg box of organic plums__ * Mixed box of red, yellow and black plums. We'll always do our best to send you the three colours, but the content may vary depending on the time of year * Red plums (from June to late October): we grow the Angelino and Laetitia varieties, which are round in shape with a red skin and yellowish-red pulp, firm with a sweet taste and wonderful aroma * Black plums (from June to late October): we grow the Black Beauty, Angelino and Black Splendour varieties, which are round in shape with a purply-black skin and a yellow or red pulp depending on the variety and degree of ripeness, firm with a sweet taste and wonderful aroma * Yellow plums (from June to late October): we grow the Golden Globe and Sun Gold varieties, which are round in shape with an amber-yellow skin and yellow pulp, which can turn orange as they ripen, firm with a sweet taste and wonderful aroma * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2015 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 8 and 16 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 7 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

Wanneer ontvang je het?

We normally start the plum harvest in the month of June and continue until September. As each year is different, we'll adapt the delivery dates as best as we can.
