You adopt een sinaasappelboom from our farm in Lorca (Spanje). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2022. Our orange trees were planted in 2001 and have been cultivated organically since 2018. They're currently at their most abundant production stage. The trees you can adopt are of the Navel family (originally from Latin America, this variety was first introduced to the US and then brought to Europe at the end of the twentieth century) and the Valencia family (one of the most popular varieties thanks to its high juice content, originally from California and brought to Spain in the twentieth century). We grow a number of Navel and Valencia varieties on our farm, including Navelina, Lane, Powell and Midknight, which means that we can harvest and send out oranges throughout the season. These traditional varieties allow us to offer you tried-and-trusted oranges. Orange trees are slightly taller than a person, with lustrous green foliage that they keep all year round. When the trees are flowering it's a real treat to walk around the farm, and the sea breeze helps the orange blossom fill the air with that characteristic sweet smell. Organic farming allows the trees to follow their own rhythms, so a single orange tree might produce fruits of all different sizes. This is also the reason why the oranges you'll receive with your adoption are unique and one-of-a-kind. Together with the oranges in your box, you'll also find our clementines and mandarins. The varieties we have throughout the season are Orogrande and Clemenvilla. The Orogrande will be at its optimal ripeness between November and early December, and the Clemenvilla will be harvested between December and January. Adopting a tree is proof of your confidence and commitment to our project at Doña Ana. Through this partnership with CrowdFarming, you help us fight food waste because adoptions mean that we can organise the harvest much better. There are fruits of all sizes on our trees. The largest and the smallest oranges, along with the ones unsuitable for delivery, are sent to processing plants for juice production. Your adoption is 22 years old and its maximum lifespan is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your sinaasappelboom produces an average of 24kg of fruits each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __Box with 8kg of organic oranges and 2kg of organic mandarins__ * Navelina oranges (November-January): They have a small prominent navel, an oval shape, and are very juicy * Clemenvilla mandarins (early December to late January): great juice content and excellent flavour, fruit of medium/large size and a very attractive reddish-orange colour, characteristic sour note in balance with the sweetness, a little more difficult to peel than clementines * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2022 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo of oranges contains between 4 and 7 fruits * One kilo of mandarins contains between 6 and 9 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 2 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

You’ll receive your oranges and mandarins from mid-November to late January. Defining the beginning and end of each season is difficult as the season will be different each year. If the weather is warm enough, we can start the season a little earlier, and towards the end of the season the yield could be poor for whatever reason, and the oranges could run out sooner. Please take these dates as guidelines.
