Adopt an orange tree from the farm "Verger de Alicia" in Valencia (Spanje) and receive your harvest in the form of oranges at home. Gonzalo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt an orange tree from our farm in Valencia (Spanje) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2024. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your orange tree. The orange tree plays a major role on our farm, and we'd like you to tell you a bit more about it. Its scientific name is *Citrus sinensis*, which as you'll know is a citrus fruit, and it originated in Asia over two thousand years ago. These trees have undergone numerous modifications due to both natural selection and artificial hybridisations, which has given rise to a huge range of varieties. We grow three varieties on our farm, which means that we can stagger the harvest, reduce peak workloads and offer you a more exciting box with different oranges, each one unique in flavour, acidity, shape, sweetness, etc. More specifically, we grow the Navelina and Lane Late varieties (both of the Lane variety), and the Salustiana, which belongs to the White Orange variety. Each tree is unique, but the varieties share some common characteristics. Navelinas are medium-sized, more or less rounded and with very dark coloured leaves; Lane Lates are more vigorous than Navelinas, with very dense foliage; and Salustianas are the largest of all, with very vigorous and upright branches, full of lighter green leaves. You can see that the written descriptions are quite different, but it's not so easy to see that on the trees. We'd love you to visit the farm and see if you're able to tell them apart! In May 2021, we took up a new challenge: to convert El Verger de Alicia to organic farming. Thanks to its climate and relief, the farm offers optimal conditions for the development of this organic project. The farm is 100% organic and herbicide-free. We control weeds mechanically, we only cut the grass in the summer months (so that it doesn't compete with the fruit trees), and we control pests with the help of insects. Your adoption is 21 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 25kg of oranges each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

Wat krijg je?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2.5kg box of oranges__ * Navelinas (December - January): slightly protruding navel; oval shape; very juicy; easy to peel; balanced flavour between bitter and sweet * Salustianas (January): medium sized; flattened round shape; few pips. Perfect for a juice with a great balance between sweet and bitter * Lane Lates (January - March): round shape; thin skin; medium sized; deep orange colour * Farming in transition to organic farming since 2021 * They are not treated with wax or preservatives (you can use the peel) * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 4 and 6 fruits (the box contains 12 fruits approximately, depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 15 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

Wanneer ontvang je het?

We harvest our oranges from December to March. The exact dates may vary depending on the weather in each season.
