You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
Adopt a table grape vine that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2011. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your table grape vine. This grape variety “Italia” is typical of Canicattì, the Sicilian village where our company is located. It dates back to the first half of the 20th century and the name pays tribute to the unification of the country. Sure enough it was at the beginning of the 20th century when the agronomist Alberto Pirovano, crossing the Bicane and Moscato d’Amburgo vines, created this new variety which found its ideal microclimate in the town of Canicattì, establishing itself definitively at the beginning of the seventies. In our vineyards we use a farming method called “tendone” vine training. In this system the vines are cultivated on a structure made of wire supported by poles 40-50cm apart. These wires converge perpendicularly forming a kind of net. This covered scaffolding, besides protecting the plants from potential rains and hail, intercepts the sun rays very well, favouring the bunches growth and maturation. The vines are placed against the support poles both individually and in pairs with a vertical rope about two meters high. Each of these ropes carries around four shoots placed like spokes of a wheel, which occupy the surrounding room growing horizontally on the wires of the tendone vine training. In order to decide if the grape is ready to be picked, besides looking at the color and the size of the fruit, we use a portable refractometer that measures the sugar content of the grapes. The sugar level is measured in degrees Brix. Table grape varieties are normally harvested at 16-20 degrees Brix. Our grapes are harvested by hand using pruning shears. After the whole bunches are cut, workers place them in collection crates and transfer them to the warehouse, where they are cooled and packed. The productive life of a table grape vine is around 20 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your table grape vine dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. A table grape vine from our farm produces an average of 10kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account.
