Adopt a beehive from the "Le Rucher du Comtois - BioDemain" apiary in Rurey (Frankrijk) and receive your Jura wildflower honey at home. Vincent will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one beehive is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Wat adopteer je?

You adopt a beehive from our apiary in Rurey (Frankrijk) that we have been taking care of following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2023. We have been complying with the European Union's organic farming regulations since 2020. The apiary must be run for three years in accordance with the organic regulations before it can officially be awarded the organic label. Adopting one of our 500 traditional beehives means supporting a beekeeper who is in the process of converting to organic farming. Our bees are Buckfast, and they are known for being very gentle and docile. The apiary is set up in the Jura. This area offers a diversity of landscapes, atmospheres and cultures, which make it a place rich in history. A variety of spaces rise successively, like a staircase, from the plain to the mountains. Part town, part countryside, the Jura is the ideal place for the apiary! No less than 30 million bees draw their nectar from a wide variety of meadow and forest plant species, as the hives are located in areas free of crops within a 20 km radius of the farm. Our bees will therefore not be foraging from plants that have potentially been sprayed. Out of respect for the bees and their work, we only harvest the surplus honey they produce, and in the event of a particularly large production, we keep reserves in order to be ready in case of a shortage. The life expectancy of a worker bee can be anything from a few weeks to several months, depending on the season, whereas the queen bee has a life expectancy of 3–5 years. The absence of pesticides makes it possible to extend the life of the queen bee and thereby ensure the long-term survival of the beehive. When the worker bees are orphaned, they can install a new queen from a fresh brood (larvae less than 3 days old). A colony of bees is therefore immortal and constantly renews itself. Each beehive produces an average of 20kg of Jura wildflower honey per season. 10 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 2kg of Jura wildflower honey.

Wat krijg je?

Each season we will send you a box with: 4 x__ Jura wildflower honey__ (500g each, glass jar) This Jura honey is made from several varieties of flower and/or plant species from France: a showcase of the richness of our biodiversity. It has a soft, oaky fragrance, and a creamy, slightly fruity taste. Each pot may vary slightly depending on the species of flowers the bees are foraging. Wildflowers have the advantage of offering a multitude of varieties such as buttercups, daisies, poppies and gentians. Flower honey, tinted with a beautiful yellow colour, has the special characteristic of crystallising quickly, unlike fir honey, for example, which tends to remain liquid. I will stir the crystals that are naturally present in the honey in order to obtain a smooth texture, and offer you a creamy and indulgent honey. However, if you prefer it liquid, you can use the water bath technique. Whatever its form, honey is a non-perishable product: meaning that there is no shelf life. It should be noted, however, that from 3 years after harvest, it will start to lose taste and nutritional quality. You can consume our honey in several ways: delicious on your toast, as an accompaniment to your desserts or as a little extra in your dishes. Any way you want to enjoy our creamy honey is a good way! This honey, which is not certified as organic just yet, leaves the farm with all the taste qualities of the land that its organic counterpart could have. Indeed, even if it is not yet organic, I respect the very strict specifications of organic production, which entails more traditional farming techniques that respect the environment and the bees.

Wanneer ontvang je het?

The honey is harvested in the summer, and you can receive your package of wildflower honey from November onwards.
