You adopt 40m² of een rijstveld from our farm in Rovasenda (Italië). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2015. You will get to adopt a part of the farm of around 40m² of this resilient crop, which is sown in May and harvested in October. It is an annual herbaceous plant that grows under almost permanent submerged conditions. This plant is between 80 and 150cm high. The historic villages of Baraggia Vercelle and Biellese have been producing quality rice since the 16th century. Baraggia is a clayey land that makes its very cultivation difficult and tiring, in some respects impossible. But the rice here grows in a way that is found nowhere else in the world. We grow your rice using a sustainable method, that ties in with ancient tradition. We use the old cultivation techniques and the only difference is the use of mechanical equipment to prepare the soil. We also apply the ancient concept of cultural rotation and have eliminated the use of any chemicals. Our method respects the environment and all natural processes, from sowing to packaging. We grow the varieties Carnaroli and S. Andrea. In rice paddies, Carnaroli can be recognised by its very tall plant, which makes the harvesting very difficult, due to its folding towards the ground. S. Andrea is an autochthonous variety of Baraggia Biellese and Vercellese and takes its name from the ancient abbey of Vercelli St. Andrea. The height of this variety is lower than Carnaroli and this allows easier cultivation. Each rijstveld produces an average of 4kg of biologische Carnaroli rijst en biologische S. Andrea rijst per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x__ Organic Carnaroli rice__ (1kg, paper bag) 1 x __Organic semi-wholegrain Carnaroli rice__ (1kg, paper bag) 1 x __Organic S. Andrea rice__ (1kg, paper bag) In this variety the grain is approx. 7mm long, crystalline and bleached and has a high starch content. __Carnaroli rice__ has a sort of sweet taste. Also, the characteristic that makes Carnaroli unique is undoubtedly its high cooking properties – in fact, Carnaroli rice is the best variety for preparing risottos like the traditional Risotto alla Parmigiana. __Semi-wholegrain Carnaroli rice__ has the same shape and taste as white rice, but changes in colour because the pericarp tissues are still present on the outside. Semi-wholegrain Carnaroli rice provides more lipids, proteins and fibres, while refined Carnaroli rice has a higher concentration of starch, vitamins and minerals. We are absolutely proud to introduce you to one of the premium and most ancient varieties of our beloved region of the Biellese and Vercellese Baraggias: the __St. Andrea rice__. The grain is medium/large size. Among it's most specific traits are a peculiar texture and an excellent cooking potential, which makes it perfect for both soups and risotti. St. Andrea rice is the best and most original variety of the traditional Risotto alla Vercellese, also known as Panissa. All our packaging is in organic paper and can be 100% recycled. Make sure it's stored in a dry place to avoid moisture, especially once opened. During summer, it can be stored in either your fridge, or freezer.

Harvested in October, the rice is packed in protective atmosphere – we'll be able to ship it you only from March, in order to take advantage of the colder temperatures during the shipping process and maintain the best quality.
