Adopt a quinoa plant stock from "Azienda Agricola Iotti Andrea" in Rio Saliceto (Italië) and receive your harvest in the form of quinoa at home. Andrea will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
Adopt a quinoa plant stock (15m²) from our farm in Rio Saliceto (Italië). Quinoa, although commonly recognized as cereal, especially thanks to its starch content, is actually not part of the family of the *Poaceae* (such as barley, maize, wheat or rice) but of the *Chenopodiaceae*. It belongs to the same family as chard and spinach. It is a plant of Peruvian origin cultivated in the highlands of the Andes, "accustomed" to adverse climatic conditions and therefore very resistant. For this reason, it does not need a big amount of water. Cultivation in Europe started in the 1980s, but only in the last 10 years the cultivated area has become significant. Our production is 100% natural, we do not use any type of pesticide or herbicide. From 2022 we will start preparing the paperwork for the organic certification. It is rich in many nutrients: complete proteins of all 8 amino acids, mineral salts, vitamins (especially C and E), antioxidants, unsaturated fats and is also gluten-free. We are a family business, and we have been working the fields for over 100 years. In our land we have grown a huge variety of products and our experience lets us try out different types of crops. In our opinion, __Vikinga__ Quinoa is an excellent quality product that adapts very well to our territory without damaging the ecosystem or exploiting natural resources. Each quinoa plant stock bears an average of 3kg of quinoa per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 6 x __Quinoa__ (500g, compostable bags) The Quinoa that we produce is the __Vikinga__ variety, with light seeds and a very low content of saponin. Saponin is a natural substance produced by the plant itself which gives it a particularly bitter taste that would make it not very enjoyable to eat. However, as the Vikinga variety has a very low content, we can sell it as wholemeal and thus preserve its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics. Another huge advantage of Quinoa is that its preparation is extremely simple, and it doesn’t need to be soaked or peeled, it is enough to wash it for a few seconds with water. You are therefore able to save time and to enjoy it to its full potential. Quinoa can be consumed in many ways: you can use it as an alternative to pasta or rice, pair it with your meat dishes, or enjoy it in salads or soups. Once received, just store it in a dry place and, after opening it, put it in a hermetically sealed container. THe shelf life is conventionally established to be 2 years but in reality, if properly preserved, it could last even longer.
