Adopt quinoa plant stock from our farm in Nérondes (Francia). You will adopt a quinoa parcel of 33m² which yield corresponds to the 5 kilos of grain that we will send you. As farmers located in the heart of Berry since 2015, we diversified our crops by farming quinoa. Quinoa is our favorite grain as the variety that we use has a characteristic taste and texture, and above all cooks very fast (6 minutes as opposed to 12 to 15 minutes for other varieties)! Originated from Latin America, quinoa has been cultivated for over 5000 years. It is the fruit of a herbaceous plant from the Amaranthaceae family. Although it is consumed in a similar way as cereals, it isn’t part of the graminaceous family. We may therefore call it a “pseudo-cereal”. The first quinoa grain is believed to have arrived in Europe around the 18th century. It is considered to be “the Queen of all grains” by the Incas. We do not use any herbicides: the weeding is done mechanically, and even manually whenever necessary. We select ancient and rustic varieties that need little inputs. We sow at the beginning of spring and harvest towards the end of August or beginning of September. Quinoa grain is then pre-washed, dried and stored. Before arriving in your plate, they go through several sorting and cleaning stages!
Each season we will send you a box with: 1 x __white quinoa__ (5kg/bag) It is recommended to rinse the quinoa before cooking it. It may be cooked in the same way as pasta or rice; simply in a big pot of water. Berry quinoa only needs to simmer for 6 minutes. But here is the perfect way to cook it: Pour the quinoa into 1,7 times its volume of boiling water or broth. Once the liquid starts boiling again, let it simmer for 6 minutes at medium heat and covered. Remove from heat and set aside, still covered, for 2 minutes until it has fully absorbed the liquid. For the complete nutritional information, please see the product’s technical sheet. With its delicate flavour, its light texture and it’s crispy touch our quinoa pairs marvelously with many recipes. For savoury dishes, we advise to cook it with vegetables, in the same style as couscous, tajine or tabbouleh. It can also be served with a curry sauce, tomato/bolognese sauce or with pesto. In its sweet version, it can be prepared like rice pudding, with milk or plant milk, and be served with fresh fruit and nuts for a healthy dessert or breakfast (porridge style). The grain can be stored for several months and up to one year as long as it is kept in a dry place, away from the light and heat sources. The bag should be tightly closed to avoid unwelcome visitors.
