You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt 25m² of a cereal field from our farm in Birstein-Kirchbracht (Germania). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union and and follows the Bioland guidelines as of 1984. The cultivated cereals vary from year to year; a large part of the cultivated rye has already been reproduced for many years (own propagation of grain), so we do not always buy new seeds. It is important that the cultivated cereals are as robust as possible and that the grains can be used to make delicious bread. It is not important to us to generate particularly high yields; our focus is on working in harmony with nature. For us, the cereals wheat, rye and spelt are the most important, as they are particularly good for baking. Rye takes up the largest share here, as the rye plant is particularly undemanding and resistant, and it fits well with our soils. In order to protect the soil and to obtain nutrients naturally, we have a diverse crop rotation. This means that different crops are cultivated on our fields in annual rotation. For example, in addition to cereals, clover is sometimes sown on the fields. Since clover is able to bind nitrogen from the air and thus also make it available to the cereals, we do not need chemical fertilizers at all. Our fields are fertilized only with horse manure. We get this from a few smaller horse boarding stables in the surrounding area. Many of our fields are surrounded by hedges and shrubs to provide shelter for animals. Our crop protection is taken over by beneficial insects such as the ladybird or the lacewing. These small beneficial insects feed on aphids, for example, and thus help us to keep our crops healthy. Synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilizers are not used. Every loaf of bread made from the harvested grain is a piece of craftsmanship. In our own bakery there are no automated processes; each loaf of bread is made separately. Your adoption produces an average of 12kg of Bioland organic cereal each season. With this amount we can produce around 12l of Bioland organic sourdough bread. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: 1 x __Bioland organic six-grain bread__ (1 kg, paper bag) 1 x __Bioland organic farmhouse bread__ (1 kg, paper bag) Ingredients: Rye, wheat, and spelt flour, salt, water, grains In one harvest box there are two organic whole grain breads, a six-grain bread and a farmhouse bread. Since we do not use yeast in these breads and instead work with sourdough, the breads have a characteristic slightly sour taste. The six-grain bread is a mixed rye bread (50% whole grain rye flour) and has a relatively coarse structure because it contains whole grains. It is made from whole grain rye, wheat and spelt flour, as well as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, linseeds, natural sourdough, water and sea salt. The farmhouse bread is a pure rye bread and somewhat finer in texture, it does not contain whole grains. It consists only of whole grain rye flour, water, natural sourdough and sea salt. In our opinion, a good bread only needs three ingredients: Flour, salt and water! The breads have a very long shelf life of one week, compared to what you usually find in large bakeries. You can also freeze them without any problems and defrost them again later, the quality does not suffer. The breads can be eaten immediately after delivery. Quando lo ricevi?
Our grain is harvested between mid-July and early August, depending on the year (rainfall and temperature). After the harvest, the grain is cleaned and then milled. Shortly after, the fresh flour is used for baking the first loaves of bread, so that they can leave our farm at the beginning of September. The grain has a long shelf life if stored properly, so we can produce fresh bread until next year's harvest.
