Adopt an apple tree from the "Obsthof Rönn" farm in Meckenheim (Germania) and receive your Bioland organic "Boskoop" apples at home. Michael will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt an apple tree from our farm in Meckenheim (Germania). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union since 2019. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apple tree. The trees grow in our orchard, which we planted in 2016, and which is our favourite place for taking a walk. We grow 13 different apple varieties there, one of which is the Boskoop. It is not exactly clear how the apple made its way to Germany. What is certain is that it set out on its way to us several thousand years ago along human trade routes from Asia (possibly from Kazakhstan). Today's cultivated apple (*Malus domestica*) is a deciduous tree that can grow to a height of 8 - 15m and forms a protruding crown. In winter, it loses its leaves and reawakens from hibernation in spring with shoots of leaves and beautiful apple blossom. It is, by the way, part of the rose family. We keep an eye on our trees all year round. They must be cut back and cared for, pruned and watered when needed. The Boskoop - or rather Schöner aus Boskoop, as the variety is actually called - has been cultivated in Germany since 1863 and is thus one of the older apple varieties. It is a large-fruited apple (some individual fruits weigh more than 250g), and it usually ripens between mid-September and mid-October. Because of its sour taste, it is often used for applesauce or pies. However, in addition to its high acidity, it also contains a lot of sugar. The Boskoop has a high polyphenol content, which is why it is often well tolerated by allergy sufferers. Like other older apple varieties, the Boskoop does not cope as well with the effects of climate change. As a result, due to the lack of water, apples are often not as large as they typically would have been in the past. It is also prone to sunburn damage (the skin discolours and the apple rots at that point), making it almost a rarity by now. Your adoption is 6 years old and its maximum lifespan is 25 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Sustainable cultivation is particularly important to us in our work, and in 2019, we were even awarded the Ludwig Company Award in the Sustainability category. Your apple tree produces an average of 22.5kg of Bioland organic "Boskoop" apples each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

Che cosa ricevi?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4.5 kg of Bioland organic “Boskoop” apples__ * Boskoop: tastes fresh and sour, initially firm, later ripens in taste and the texture softens during storage * Organic cultivation, certified with the EU organic seal and the Bioland seal since 2019 * Contrary to other fruits, apples cannot be harvested gradually and need to be harvested within a short time span when having reached their full maturity; in order to avoid food waste and to ensure farmer’s economic stability, they are first sent fresh from the tree and for the rest of the season kept in cold storage, never longer than the current season (maximum of 12 weeks storage) * Harvested upon request, without waxes and preservatives on the skin, sent in a plastic-free cardboard box * For people who enjoy tart apples, it is suitable as dessert fruit, otherwise popular for baking, cooking and used in winter as baked apple * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in size and appearance * A kilo contains between 4-8 fruits (in a box you will find between 20 and 35 pieces depending on the size) * The best place to store them depends on how quickly you want to use or eat your apples: The Boskoop can continue to ripen well at your home to develop full flavour; however, storage also softens them - in a cool environment and with regular checking, you can potentially store your apples at your home up until January or February

Quando lo ricevi?

We harvest our various apples from mid-July to mid-November. Here we pick each variety several times to always harvest optimally ripe fruit. Boskoop is usually harvested from mid to late September. Immediately after that we ship the first apples to you. You can then store them at home in the cellar or in the greenhouse (somewhere frost-free) and let them ripen or enjoy them right away. You can have Boskoop sent to you up until mid-December. After that we need the space in the warehouse for other varieties, however, you can store the apples at home in a cool place for another 4-6 weeks.
