Adopt un alveare from the apiary "Miel Goutte d'Or" in Vernantes (Francia) and receive your miele di fiori estivi at home. Louis will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one alveare is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your miele di fiori estivi and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt un alveare from our apiary in Vernantes (Francia). The *Apis mellifera* Buckfast species is the predominant one among our hives, a particularly resistant species that appeared at the beginning of the last century, prolific and not very aggressive. However, it is not the only one we host, as we do not control the genetics of our bees by buying new queens, we mainly capture swarms. Our hives flourish in Dadant hives, containing an average of 50,000 bees at harvest time. This type of hive is the most widely used in Europe because of its ease of use and the protection it offers to the bees. Its particular characteristic is that it separates the living space of the bees from the storage space of the production. These hives are mostly made of chestnut wood. They are therefore very heavy and require a lot of maintenance, but are very durable: most are between 30 and 50 years old. Our 75 hives are located between a nature park and agricultural land. The latter do not host bee pasture, so our bees do not forage there and avoid the potentially treated areas. Out of respect for the bees and their work, we only harvest the excess honey (the one they don’t need to survive), on average 12 to 15kg of honey per harvest located in the upper part of the hive, the honey supers. When the weather allows it, we harvest 3 times a year: at the end of spring, at the end of July, and in September. The geographical location of the hives and the flowering periods determine the composition of the honeys that we harvest. For example, we add a super filled with empty frames a few days before the bramble blooms in early June, the foraging bees fill the frames with nectar during the flowering of the bramble and then go on to the chestnut trees. We remove the full supers at the end of July when the flowering of the chestnut ends, which gives us a honey mainly composed of nectar from bramble and chestnut flowers. In September, we harvest the polyfloral honey, for which the empty supers have been installed at the very beginning of the season. We do not use primers for new frames, we let our bees build them entirely. Queen bees live for about 4 to 5 years. A worker bee lives for about 5 weeks during the beekeeping season, and several months during the winter. When the worker bees are orphaned, they can install a new queen from a fresh brood (larvae less than 3 days old). A colony of bees is technically immortal because it constantly renews itself. Each alveare produces an average of 20kg of miele di fiori estivi per season. 10 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 2kg of miele di fiori estivi.

Che cosa ricevi?

The box we will send you contains: 2 x __Liquid Forest Honey __(500g each, jar) 2 x __Chestnut/Bramble Honey__ (500g each, jar) __Liquid Forest Honey:__ Harvested in mid-August, the late flowering of oak, chestnut and bramble are added to the melliferous flora as well as the honeydew harvested by the bees. This will give a very fragrant honey, well balanced and persistent, woody with a sweet taste and a pretty amber colour. __Chestnut/Bramble Honey:__ Chestnut honey is surely one of the most appreciated by honey lovers. Gold, full-bodied and powerful in taste, it has a persistent woody aroma that is slightly bitter, before giving way to a softer and more subtle bramble with hints of underbrush. It is a real walk in the forest after a heavy summer rain. Naturally, raw honey will evolve over time, it is a living product that crystallizes. Crystallization depends on the floral composition, storage temperature and time. If you prefer, keep it in a warm room (or use the water bath method) and vice versa if you like the crystalline texture. Honey is a non-perishable product, so there is no expiry date, its crystalline form is very stable. However, there is a minimum durability date. Indeed, from 3 years after the harvest, the flavours begin to diminish. This date is indicated on the jar: a D/M/Y date indicates the batch number for traceability, the date of minimum durability corresponds to the end of year Y. Even after opening the jar, the taste of honey continues to evolve, varying its aromas. All the important stages of production (swarming, harvesting, extraction, filtration and packaging) are carried out in an artisanal manner using modern beekeeping techniques (late 19th century). The raw honey, we receive has never been heated *(1)* nor transformed, and is well preserved. This honey keeps all its taste qualities of the land. Even after opening the jar, the taste of the honey continues to evolve, varying its aromas. *(1) There is no alteration of the product because it is never heated above 40ºC, which is the temperature measured within the beehive.

Quando lo ricevi?

The honey is harvested several times between the end of spring and the end of summer, and we end the season with the harvest of polyfloral honey in September. You will therefore receive your order in October.
