Adopt a persimmon tree from the farm "Maison Tamisier" in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (Francia) and receive your harvest in the form of organic persimmons at home. Laurent will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt a persimmon tree from our farm in L’Isle Sur La Sorgue (Francia). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2017. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your persimmon tree. For the record, the persimmon (or kaki - the fruit of the persimmon tree) has a very distant provenance! It is native to China, and was then introduced to Japan over a thousand years ago. It is the national fruit, and the Japanese eat it in large quantities during the Chinese New Year in different forms: dried, fried or in a sauce. There are over 2,000 varieties throughout the world! It reached Europe during the 19th century and was introduced to Toulon by a naval architect. Even today, the South is still the French region where the fruit is most popular. The establishment of our orchards on the island of Barthelasse (near Avignon) fosters the production of persimmons. It is a cultivation area with an ideal microclimate in which the tree and the fruit can flourish. It is very drought-resistant but requires 100-120mm of water a year, hence our interest in installing irrigation control probes and a drip-feed system for improved water management. The persimmon is a rustic tree with a spreading habit and simple, broad, oval green leaves that take on a beautiful red colour in the autumn. It flowers from the second half of May until July. Harvesting, by hand, takes place from October to early December. The peduncle is cut so that the calyx remains attached to the fruit to preserve its freshness. You adopt a persimmon of the Brilliant Red variety, but since we also cultivate the Jiro variety, you will have a chance to discover both depending on the delivery date you choose. The two varieties differ in certain ways: The Jiro has a small technical peculiarity. It is very resistant to extreme cold (down to -20°C). The Brilliant Red ripens later, is harvested in November and is more productive than the Jiro. To reduce the astringency of the Brilliant Red variety, we use a "de-astringency" technique, which consists of placing the final product in a chamber saturated at 90% with CO² for 24 hours. Your adoption is 6 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 9kg of organic persimmons each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

Che cosa ricevi?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4.5kg box of organic persimmons__ * Jiro: rather flattened in shape and orange-yellow in colour, a very sweet fruit with a slight nutty taste; this variety is in no way astringent! * Brilliant Red: an orange-coloured fruit with a fine, delicate taste and a sweet flavour of vanilla; slightly astringent, which is why we employ an de-astringence technique that consists of placing the finished product in a chamber 90% saturated with CO² for 24 hours * Depending on the month, we harvest the varieties that we find to be at their optimum point of ripeness * They are eaten crunchy, as hard as an apple, and the consistency of its pulp also makes them an excellent alternative in salads, desserts, sauce dishes and jam * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 5 and 9 fruits (the box contains between 22 and 40 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 10 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away

Quando lo ricevi?

Our Jiro persimmons are picked from October, while the Brilliant Red variety is harvested from November onwards.
