Adopt an apricot tree from the farm "Le Verger Bio de Véronique" in Rivesaltes (Francia) and receive your organic apricots at home. Véronique will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt an apricot tree from our farm in Rivesaltes (Francia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2009. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your apricot tree. Here, you can adopt an organic apricot tree of the Bigred variety, which grows on our family farm in the South of France. The Roussillon region is characterised by a climate that is hot, dry and features an abundance of wind and strong sunshine. This protects against the main diseases that our trees would otherwise face, and therefore facilitates production in Organic Farming. This climate is also very effective for producing quality apricots: the fruits are bursting with sunshine with their beautiful colour. The apricot tree has been present in the Roussillon region for more than 1,000 years. In 1971, the department of the Pyrénées Orientales was the first French department to produce apricots thanks to our endemic varieties: the Roussillon Red Apricots. Today, the production range is much wider with nearly 40 varieties on our farm, which provides us with a harvest of apricots from the beginning of May to the end of August. Our Bigred orchard, which has trees available for adoption, is a very important orchard for us. This orchard is in the first plot we converted to organic farming. During this process we discovered the challenges of organic farming, but also the joys when everything goes as planned. Bigred is an early apricot variety that ripens between late May and early June. We will also send you other varieties that we grow (Anegat, Farbela, Nelson, Farely, Farlis) so that we can supply you with apricots all summer long. The orchard is planted in low density, with trees pruned in open goblets. Picking is done by hand and only when the fruits are at optimal ripeness to ensure quality harvest. As is usual practice in our orchards, the trees are watered by drip irrigation to minimise water wastage. Your adoption is 13 years old and its maximum lifespan is 20 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your apricot tree produces an average of 22.5kg of organic fresh apricots each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4.5kg box of organic apricots__ * Late varieties: Anegat, Farbela, Nelson, Farely, Farlis (the name of the variety that you receive will be indicated in the letter inside your package) * These varieties have similar characteristics: rather small apricots with a thick epidermis but a sweet, fragrant pulp and almost zero acidity * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2009 * Picked just a few days before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness, and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 25 and 40 fruits * Storage: The fruits can only be stored for 2-3 days in a cool and airy place; we therefore recommend placing them in the refrigerator and taking them out a few hours before eating to let them get to room temperature * If the apricots spoil too quickly, don't panic, they can easily be used to make a compote or jam

Apricots are picked between the beginning of May and the end of August. During the harvesting season, we spend every 2 days in the apricot orchards to make sure that we only pick fruit that is at optimal ripeness. Then the fruit is sorted to discard any damaged pieces. It is packaged and shipped to the CrowdFarmers within days of harvest.
