You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spagna). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union since 2009. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. The mango tree you're adopting has a long history. This crop was first commercially produced in the province of Málaga back in the 1980s, although it's not known when certain examples of mango trees in the La Axarquía area were actually planted. The first varieties of mangoes that arrived in La Axarquía came from Florida and Israel, areas where their viability had been proven and which have a similar climate to ours. Mangoes have been part of our family since the 1980s, when we created one of the first plantations of this crop that back then was pretty much unknown. Initially due to the lack of reliable data on varietal adaptability, endless varieties of mango were tested. We selected the ones that best suited our weather conditions and had the best organoleptic characteristics, and then we chose the ones that can be harvested on different dates. We currently grow the Osteen, Kent, Palmer and Keitt varieties. These are varieties that offer a broader window of production, from September to November, so we get to enjoy this delicious fruit for longer. In addition to researching so many varieties, we were pioneers in the fully organic production of mangoes. That was quite a challenge back in the 80s as very little was known about how to grow this crop organically. But we learned a lot and we now altruistically advise other farmers who want to implement organic farming. In your box, you'll also find some avocados of the Bacon variety. This is a variety has a mild flavour and smooth skin. This fruit also helps with pollination on our farm, as avocado flowers are monoecious and open their petals at different times of the day. By having different varieties, we can make sure that male and female flowers coincide and encourage cross-pollination. What's more, you'll receive a bottle of organic mango jam that we make ourselves in the traditional way with mangoes that have ripened on the tree and need to be used immediately, because they wouldn't cope with a long trip in a box. In order to guarantee the quality of our mangoes, we recently certified our farm under the 'Mango de Málaga' standards, a benchmark for mangoes produced in the Málaga area that meet organoleptic requirements and quality standards. This certificate guarantees that the fruit is picked straight from the tree with the right ripening conditions and an optimal sugar level. Your adoption is 15 years old and its maximum lifespan is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 1 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. You can tell that it has reached its point of ripeness when its skin loses its shininess and becomes softer to the touch.
