Adopt a mango tree from the "La Gitanilla" farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spagna) and receive your organic mangoes at home. Nazaret will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spagna). The cultivation here has been certified as organic by the European Union as of 2009. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. The mango tree you're adopting has a long history. This crop was first commercially produced in the province of Málaga back in the 1980s, although it's not known when certain examples of mango trees in the La Axarquía area were actually planted. The first varieties of mangoes that arrived in La Axarquía came from Florida and Israel, areas where their viability had been proven and which have a similar climate to ours. Mangoes have been part of our family since the 1980s, when we created one of the first plantations of this crop that back then was pretty much unknown. Initially, and due to the lack of reliable data on varietal adaptability, endless varieties of mango were tested. We selected the ones that best suited our weather conditions and demonstrated better organoleptic characteristics, and then we chose the ones that produce on different dates. We currently grow the Osteen, Kent, Palmer and Keitt varieties. These are varieties that offer a broader window of production, from September to November, so we get to enjoy this delicious fruit for longer. In addition to researching so many varieties, we were pioneers in the fully organic production of mangoes. That was quite a challenge back in the 80s as very little was known about how to grow this crop organically. But we learned a lot and we now altruistically advise other Farmers who want to implement organic farming. In order to guarantee the quality of our mangoes, we recently certified our farm under the 'Mango de Málaga' standards, a benchmark for mangoes produced in the Málaga area that meet organoleptic requirements and quality standards. This certificate guarantees that the fruit is picked straight from the tree with the right ripening conditions and an optimal sugar level. Your adoption is 15 years old and its maximum lifespan is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your mango tree produces an average of 10kg of organic mangoes each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

Che cosa ricevi?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2,5kg box of organic mango__ * Osteen (September - October): ovoid-elongated shape, medium-large size, skin with a very characteristic purple hue and orange, yellow or greenish tones, has a low amount of fiber, pulp with a sweet and slightly sour flavour * Keitt (October - November): ovoid-oblong shape, large size, green and pink skin, has low fiber content, pulp with a sweet and slightly sour taste * Palmer rojo (October): elongated shape, small to medium sized, reddish skin, very smooth, fine-fibred pulp and sweet taste * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2009 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 2 and 4 fruits * It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption * Important note: the fruits usually arrive hard; to ripen them, keep them at room temperature until they are ready to eat; if you receive some fruit that is already ripe, you can either eat it right away or keep it in the fridge I won't go into details about the characteristics of each variety, as you'll find more information and serving suggestions inside the box. All I'll say is that anytime a friend says that they don't like mangoes, I give them a mango from La Gitanilla and they end up loving them. It's not easy to find mangoes that meet our quality standards, so when you try one, I'm sure that you'll notice the difference and you won't ever want to have a mango that doesn't come from Finca La Gitanilla.

Quando lo ricevi?

As our farm is just a few hours from central Europe, we can pick our fruit only when it's at the perfect moment of ripeness so that you can set off on a taste journey when eating this delicious fruit. The harvesting season begins in mid-September and, depending on the weather, can last until December.
