Il progetto

Adopt 400m² of a potato field from "Hof Lebensberg" in Obermoschel (Germania) and receive your colourful Bioland organic potatoes at home. Janine will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one potato field is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time in case the preparation has not started yet.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt part of a 400m² big a potato field from our farm in Obermoschel (Germania). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2021. What is special about our fields is that the potatoes are growing in an agroforestry system that is being established. Next winter over 30,000 trees and shrubs will be planted between the field strips. We manage the potato field completely without a plow. Our goal is to build up as much soil life as possible. In the end, this also benefits the potatoes and the people who eat them. Terra preta, rock flour, compost tea and high-quality compost are the ingredients for our delicious, nutrient-rich potatoes. Instead of growing in open ground, as is usually the case, our potatoes grow under a protective mulch layer of fresh straw from our fields. This helps protect the soil from sun and evaporation and nourishes soil life. The potatoes are harvested by us with a 30-year-old "Wühlmaus" type harvester and lovingly prepared for shipping. The potato plant *Solanum tuberosum*, as its Latin name suggests, is an annual plant of the nightshade family (Solanaceae) that forms thick underground tubers to store nutrients. The plant creates these deposits for bad times and as a reproductive strategy, while we like to eat them boiled, fried, as jacket potatoes and much more. The potato originally comes from the Andes, but it is now firmly anchored in Europe as a staple food and is particularly popular in Germany. We have selected very special potato varieties for cultivation: The Blaue Anneliese and Heiderot varieties come from the Lüneburger Heide, from organic breeding by potato breeder Karsten Ellenberg, and are particularly resilient, robust and drought-tolerant. Did you know that red and blue potatoes contain large amounts of anthocyanins? For us, that's one more reason to grow these great, colourful tubers and get more people excited about them. Then there is the Goldmarie variety; it is an absolute classic among the potatoes and is known to many people as one of the tastiest varieties. Try its unique taste! Each potato field produces an average of 750kg of colourful Bioland organic potatoes per season. 100 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive a box containing 7.5kg of colourful Bioland organic potatoes.

Quando lo ricevi?

We harvest the potatoes as soon as they are fully ripe and the weather is right, usually in late summer/early fall. After harvesting, we let the tubers “dry out” & “air out”, as it is called, for 1-2 weeks. This extends the storage time. As soon as this post-harvest rest period is complete, we pack them for you and send off your box. Depending on the season, we expect the harvest at the end of September and plan to ship on October 10th, depending on the country you will receive the potatoes between October 11th and 15th.
