Farming in conversion to Organic Farming since 2020
Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics
Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size
One kilo contains between 3 and 5 fruits (the box contains between 12 and 20 fruits depending on the size)
It is a climacteric fruit which is harvested when it reaches physiological maturity; after being picked from the tree it then continues to ripen until it has reached its optimum point for consumption
Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, so we recommend keeping them at room temperature until they ripen and are ready to eat. If you receive pieces that are already ripe, you can eat them straight away or keep them in the fridge

Berta Mompó
My name's Berta Mompó and my relationship with farming has been a round trip. A story with a happy and unexpected ending. My family has been linked to agriculture for generations. My father, my grandparents and my great-grandparents grew crops on the banks of the River Júcar. I don't remember the first time when I set foot in one of our citrus orchards, but I must have been very young. And from then on, they were part of my childhood and my memories. I then went off to study at university, after which I looked for a job in the city and thought that I'd have a life away from the country. However, it's not so easy to leave your roots behind… and here I am now, in the middle of a family project and closer to my land than ever before. A few years ago, I decided to take over the family's land and go down the organic farming route, growing oranges, tangerines, rice (which we also sell via CrowdFarming) and now avocados too. My day-to-day life is divided between the farm and the phone. This is a small family-run business, so we all help out wherever necessary. I personally spend a lot of time in touch with our customers, keeping on top of social media, attending to visits and explaining what we do, how we do it and why we do it this way. Explaining our vision and values is an important part of my everyday life.
Font del Salsero
We grow avocados on our beautiful terraced farm at the foot of the Sierra de Corbera mountains. Our fields have a special climate as they're located on the slopes of the mountains, facing the Mediterranean Sea and just above the wetland formed by the Albufera Nature Park of Valencia. It's the perfect place for growing citrus fruits and avocados, bathed by the wonderful sun here and the influence of the sea. Our farm has approximately twenty hectares of terraced fields in the foothills of the mountains, with pines and oaks growing naturally in the highest parts. This means that a substantial part of the farm is available for birds and other wild animals to build their shelters without being disturbed. A ravine crosses the land and collects the rainfall from the surrounding mountains, so there's always moisture in the subsoil. What's more, there's a natural spring in the middle of the farm, right where we have our irrigation well, so we never lack water for our trees. We also use drip irrigation supported by several runoff reservoirs to optimise the water needed by our plants: not too much or too little, always the right amount. In 2018, we started planting the avocado trees, leasing some land close to our family's plots and buying other land until we created the beautiful farm that we have today. It was planted with orange trees that had dried up after the former owners had neglected them for over a decade. We immediately got down to transforming the land and it took us a year for everything to be ready, so it was in 2019 that we planted the avocado trees. From the outset, we implemented organic farming practices, covering the soil with pruning remains and leaving the alleys full of natural grass. This chemical-free practice with native species is an extraordinary way of encouraging the presence of natural enemies, which fight off the pests in a natural way. Our innovative project raised expectations in the area as we're surrounded by three small villages, which have hardly any other economic activity than farming. Years ago, you could carve out a dignified living around here by growing citrus fruits, but most of the fields are now looked after by older people who will end up abandoning them due to the lack of profitability. Our initiative is a game-changer that has already created six jobs for local people, with permanent contracts, salaries above the labour agreement and year-round work. One of our goals is to waste absolutely nothing. We collect the fruit weekly, hand-picking the best pieces to send to our adopters and leaving the rest along with fallen leaves, pruning remains and grass cutting on the soil to create mulch. This prevents weeds from growing around the tree trunks and provides organic matter for the avocados.
