Adopt a kiwi plant from the farm "Finca Reitoral de Ribadetea" in Ponteareas (Spagna) and receive your harvest in the form of organic kiwis at home. The Farmer Manuel will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one kiwi plant is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

Cosa adotti?

Adopt a kiwi plant that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2016. Adopt a kiwi plant, Actinidia Deliciosa, of the Hayward variety planted in 1990, certified organic in 2016. The kiwi plant is native to the mountains of southwest China, although it was the New Zealanders who made it famous throughout the world. This deciduous climbing plant was introduced into Spain in 1969, specifically in the northwestern region of Galicia, where our growing area is located. The climate conditions in Galicia favour the development of a premium-quality fruit that at its optimal point of ripeness achieves the perfect balance between sweet and tart. The plantation at Finca Reitoral de Ribadetea was abandoned twenty years after it was planted due to the low prices that farmers were receiving for their fruit. As a result, the land was left to run wild for years without receiving any type of care. However, in 2014 we brought the land back to life in order to produce the best organic kiwi fruit. As it's a climbing plant, trellises are used to encourage its growth. Due to this, the plants create green walls that are blanketed with yellowish-white flowers in spring. The productive life of a kiwi plant is around 50 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your kiwi plant dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Each kiwi plant bears an average of 36kg per season. Each kiwi plant is adopted by 6 CrowdFarmers who receive a box with 6kg of organic kiwis.

Che cosa ricevi?

Each season we will send you: __ 6kg of green kiwi__ (cardboard box) * Green Hayward kiwi (December): a fruit with an emerald green pulp with numerous small seeds, while in the middle of the fruit is the cream-coloured core, which is also edible. Its completely fuzzy skin is light brown and the flavour achieves the perfect balance between sweet and tart * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 9 and 11 fruits (the box contains 65 fruits approximately, depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * It is a climacteric fruit, harvested when it reaches physiological ripeness but continues to evolve after harvesting until it is ready for consumption * Important: The fruits usually arrive hard, keep them at room temperature until they reach they are ready to eat; if you receive an alread ripe piece, you can put it in the fridge or eat it straight away You receive a freshly picked box of green Hayward kiwis, which have never been refrigerated. A 6 kg box contains between 60 and 80 pieces of fruit. This variety of kiwi has an emerald green pulp with numerous small seeds. In the middle of the fruit is the cream-coloured core, which is also edible. Its completely fuzzy skin is light brown. And upon reaching its optimal point of ripeness, it has a flavour that achieves the perfect balance between sweet and tart. The kiwi is picked a few days before the end of the ripening process, so that it can reach its optimal point at the CrowdFarmers' homes. To find out whether it's ripe, press the fruit with your fingers and if it gives in, it's ready to be eaten. You can eat a kiwi fruit whenever you like, whether it be for dessert, breakfast or as a snack between meals. Its flavour and fresh taste mean that it's always a good time to enjoy one. You can eat it peeled or cut in half using a teaspoon. And you can decide whether to accompany it with other fruits such as an orange. The best place to store kiwi fruit depends on its state of ripeness. If you want to speed this up, we recommend storing them at room temperature, surrounded by other ripe fruits such as apples. If you want to keep them for longer, store them in the fridge or even outside, if it's already very cold where you live (temperatures below 8°C). That being said, make sure that it doesn't freeze, as the fruit would lose quality.

Quando lo ricevi?

You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out. The Farmer will collect your harvest on demand and just before shipment so you will receive it fresh, not treated with wax or other preservatives. Receive your kiwis in December. Our key goal is to provide a kiwi in season, which completes its ripening process on the plant and gives it a truly unique flavour. We want to avoid the use of cold rooms, so our season is shorter.
