Adopt a coffee field from the "Finca Nápoles" farm in Santa Marta (Colombia) and receive your organic roasted and ground coffee at home. Mauricio will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

Cosa adotti?

You adopt a coffee field from our farm in Santa Marta (Colombia). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2013. We'll give you the approximate yield of 20-25 coffee plants on our farm Finca Nápoles, located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. We grow and collect the fruits of the three varieties of coffee (Castillo, Colombia Amarillo and Tabí), with which we make a total of two kilos of speciality organic roasted coffee beans. The coffee tree belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is also known as coffea. The complete fruit of the coffee is the cherry that at its point of ripeness is red or, depending on the variety, yellow. Once all the processes of harvesting, washing and threshing have been carried out, some of these beans are separated because they're smaller than the others or because they have split in the threshing process. These coffee beans are known in Colombia as 'Consumo UGQ' (Usually Good Quality) coffee. Under no circumstances is it a coffee of poor quality or with some type of disease. What differentiates Consumo coffee from other beans is its smaller size, but its quality and flavour are the same as larger beans. Once toasted and ground, they will become the organic coffee you receive at home. Given the characteristics of the farmland and as a guarantee that only ripe coffee cherries are picked, this process is carried out by hand. The next step in the harvesting process is washing and its subsequent 'benefit'; by 'benefit' we mean the phase in which the pulp is removed and the coffee cherry is converted into dry parchment coffee. The bean is then dried in the sun, weather permitting, for about five days on a drying patio. If there isn't enough sun, this step has to be done on drying beds. Next comes threshing, in which friction is used to remove the parchment (the husk) and the clean coffee beans (also called green coffee) are put through a sieve again that separates all the beans that fail to meet a minimum size. In this new project, we're offering you a blend of three of the exotic varieties that we grow on our farm. These varieties of speciality coffee are balanced blends and have a more intense aroma due to the right amount of roasting. Your adoption is 11 years old and its maximum lifespan is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your coffee field produces an average of 4kg of organic roasted and ground coffee each season.

Che cosa ricevi?

Each season we will send you a box with: __2 kg organic roasted and ground coffee blend__ * 4x organic roasted and ground blend of Castillo, Colombia Amarillo and Tabí varieties (500g, pack) The __Castillo__ variety has a mild brown sugar sweetness, medium citric acidity, a chocolate and nutty aroma, and a balanced body. The way this specialty coffee is processed gives it its distinctive features, that is, its freshness, the fact that it is not bitter and, due to its light roast, a more intense aroma. Our variety has an SCA cupping score of 84 to 85. The __Colombia Amarillo__ variety is a smooth coffee with a good medium, round body and an acceptable medium to high acidity. As its name indicates, it is one of the few varieties whose ripe bean is yellow (Spanish: “amarillo”) and not red, as most beans are. It has notes of vanilla, flowers and herbs; it is sweet and balanced on the palate and has a medium to high acidity with a caramel and chocolate fragrance. A particular feature of this coffee is that its seed is the result of a research project that started in the late 1960s, with the aim of producing a coffee variety that is resistant to rust. It has an SCA cupping score of 86 to 88. The __Tabí__ variety takes its name from a word in the language of the indigenous Guambiano tribe meaning “good”. It is a very creamy coffee, with notes of orange, red fruits, a very floral aroma, a chocolate flavour, apple acidity, and a medium, well-balanced body. It has an SCA cupping score of 85 to 87. The three varieties go together very well as a blend. To fully enjoy your coffee, we recommend using manual or automatic filter coffee machines because it's a medium-coarse grind. Another great way to make your speciality coffee is by using an Italian coffee maker, also known as a moka pot. If, on the other hand, you prefer to prepare it in an espresso machine, we suggest finely grinding the coffee. Our packaging is designed to keep the coffee in the best condition. Each pack has a degassing valve at the top, which releases the gases emitted by the coffee. This keeps them in an optimal state for at least one and a half years. Store the packs in a dry place and, if possible, in the shade.

Quando lo ricevi?

You'll receive your coffee in mid-March. Unlike most plantations in other coffee-growing areas in Colombia, as well as in other parts of the world, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta there's only one harvest season. This highlights the unique and exclusive character of the coffee that we provide.
