Adopt a mango tree from the farm "Finca Los Pepones" in Vélez-Málaga (Spagna) and receive your harvest in the form of organic mangos and lemons at home. María will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a mango tree from our farm in Vélez-Málaga (Spagna). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2017. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your mango tree. You adopt a mango tree of the Osteen or Keitt varieties, grown organically since 2017 on our family farm in Los Pepones. With your adoption, you'll receive a mixed box of mangos and lemons. The mango trees are of the Osteen and Keitt varieties. Both are very similar. They're less than two metres high, and although they're still in the growth stage, on average they produce about twelve to fifteen kilos of fruit. These varieties are the most dominantly grown in the area, thanks to their adaptability to the climate and their excellent flavour. The lemons are of the Fino variety, which we've been growing organically for more than twenty years. The Fino variety also is a widely spread variety grown in Spain. Both mangos and lemons originate in Asia, but over the centuries they've been grown around the world in areas with favourable climates. Both the mangos and the lemons have been certified with the European Union organic farming label. Your adoption is 8 years old and its productive life is around 40 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 15kg of organic mangos and lemons each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __4kg box of organic mangos and 1kg of organic lemons__ * Mango Osteen (September-October): elongated oval shape; medium-large size; skin with a very characteristic purple hue and orange, yellow or greenish spots; low fibre content; pulp with a sweet flavour and a touch of sourness. * Mango Keitt (October-November): oval/oblong shape; large size; green and pink skin; low fibre content; pulp with a sweet flavour and a touch of sourness. * Lemon Fino (October-April): oval shape; yellow or green skin with a thin and smooth skin; pale yellow flesh; bitter flavour; and approximately 50% juice content. * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 mangos and 1999 lemons * They are not treated with wax or preservatives (you can use the peel) * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo of mangos contains between 3 and 5 fruits * One kilo of lemons contains between 6 and 10 fruits * Keep the mangos at room temperature until they are ripe, once they are fully ripe put them in the fridge to keep them longer * If you keep the lemons in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * You'll see that the first lemons of the season may have a greenish hue, but over the weeks they'll take on the typical yellow tone of this variety The first thing you should do when you receive the box of mangos and lemons is inspect the fruit. Some of the mangos might be ready to eat, but you might have to wait a few days until the others are ready. This can range from three to twenty days, depending on the variety and the ripening conditions. If you have to wait, keep the mangos in a dry place. If most of them are already ripe, you can store them directly in the fridge. Their ripening will depend on the respiration rate of the fruit; placing them at a higher temperature speeds up respiration (and ripening), while a colder temperature will delay respiration. When they give slightly under your fingers and begin to give off their aroma, you can place them in the fridge and eat them a few days later. If for some reason they over-ripen, you can freeze the flesh to make smoothies or other recipes in the future, dehydrate them, or make jam with them. To eat, you need to separate the flesh from the skin, either by peeling the fruit or by slicing it in half and cutting the flesh into cubes. The lemons will be ready to use as soon as you receive them. Don't worry if you find a lemon with a slightly greener skin; if we've picked it from the tree, it will have already reached its point of ripeness with the right amount of juice. You might receive some very small mangos in your box, which are hard to find in shops as they normally have no commercial value, but they are absolutely delicious! These 'baby' mangos come from flowers that failed to pollinate properly, so the fruit could fully develop but without a stone. These times may vary slightly depending on the weather, so the harvest may start a bit earlier or a bit later.
