Adopt 3m² of a cabbage plot from "Maison Quemener" in Roscoff (Francia) and receive your mixed cabbage at home. Tiphaine will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt 3m² of a cabbage plot from our farm in Roscoff (Francia) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2023. We grow several varieties of cabbage and a number of different subvarieties. They all belong to the family Brassicaceae (formerly Cruciferae) and are native to Europe. The best known is the cauliflower, which is widespread on the northern side of Brittany. There are also kale, white and red cabbage, and new varieites such as chinese cabbage and kohlrabi. These are herbaceous plants, externally composed of large leaves that protect the buds. The edibility of the buds or the leaves depends on the variety. It must be acknowledged that our sand loam soils and our oceanic seashore environment are the ideal conditions for the development of these plants. Daily and excellent-quality harvests are made possible by the absence of frost during the winter. Cabbages are annual plants. This means that each year, we sow a seed that later becomes a plant. The plant develops, and when it is fully mature, we harvest it — either the entire plant for chinese cabbage and kohlrabi, or just the head for cauliflower, romanesco cabbage, kale, or cabbage. We sow them at the end of spring (June) either in nurseries in the field (like a cabbage nursery!) or in clods under cover. In July and August, we replant them at the desired density (example: 12,000 plants/ha for cauliflower). In the first case, we pull them out of the nursery, in the second case we remove the plants from the seedling trays. In all cases, everything is done by hand. The machines help with the planting and ensure that the plants take well. Each cabbage plot produces an average of 7kg of mixed cabbage per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: __7kg mixed cabbage__ * Mixed box containing 1 x cauliflower, 1 x kale and 2 x surprise cabbages; during the season, your package may change; in any case, we will offer you a selection of the best known cabbages, and we will add something new too! * 1 cauliflower: a large, compact, white to cream coloured head, made up of several inflorescences attached to a short stalk (core); it can be prepared in many ways: boiled, steamed, au gratin, puréed, in soup, and it can even be eaten raw, in salads or as an aperitif with the whole florets! * 1 kale: the "apple" which constitutes the heart of the kale is a very tight and compact bundle of leaves that protects the bud of the cabbage; the leaves are fully curled up to the core; this cabbage is a perfect accompaniment to any meat or fish dish * 2 surprise cabbages: kohlrabi, chinese cabbage, romanesco or pointed cabbage; you can find the description of the varieties in "Additional analyses" * Farming in conversion to Organic Farming since 2020 * Don't be afraid to experiment with different cooking techniques; there are several that will satisfy even the most reluctant palates! * Harvested on request, shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 7 days in good condition

For each type of cabbage, we offer many varieties. Each variety has an early harvest, which allows us to regularly harvest during autumn, winter and spring. Depending on the variety and the temperature, it might be necessary to pass regularly through the field to harvest the mature plants. To harvest the same rows at the ideal stage during mild winters, the same rows may sometimes be visited up to three times a week!
