You adopt vines cultivated under the European Union's Organic Farming regulations. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2023. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. Adopt six Colombard or Cabernet Sauvignon vines cultivated on the edge of the Gironde estuary in the Bordeaux region. Our "Colombard" variety is used to produce our white wine, while the "Cabernet Sauvignon" variety produces our rosé. The Colombard vines you are adopting come from a parcel of vines planted in 2004. Colombard is a very old grape variety that is not widely used in Bordeaux. The limestone and clay-limestone soils suit it well, as is the case here. Its ideal climate is temperate but warm, which is why it is in its element here as it ripens late. Everyone knows Cabernet Sauvignon. It is one of the great noble French varieties of black grapes, resulting from a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc that happened by chance in the seventeenth century. It is an ideal grape variety for reds as well as rosés, thanks to the freshness and finesse that it brings to the wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines you are adopting are 23 years old and come from a small parcel intended exclusively for the production of our rosé wine. On average, a cluster of Colombard or Cabernet Sauvignon grapes weighs 150 grams. By keeping to a moderate size (8 bunches per vine), the production from a vine is equivalent to a bottle of wine. On our property at Château de la Grave, we have been producing red, white and rosé wines since 1910. Each generation of the family has worked towards improving quality resulting in the wines becoming a reference point in our region and offering dependable value to our regular clientele. The property has been certified with Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value) level 3 since 2017. Our goal is to preserve nature as well as possible by protecting our heritage and our resources. These are essential if we want to pass on a well-protected and healthy environment to future generations and sustainable, high-quality wine production. We do not use any chemicals, herbicides or chemical fertilisers. I am convinced that natural agricultural methods benefit both the consumer and the local flora and fauna. This conviction is what led me, when I joined my parents in 2018, to encourage my family to take the plunge to obtain the Agriculture Biologique (Organic Agriculture) label. We are in the process of converting and hope to achieve certification in 2023. The productive life of vines is around 60 years. For as long as you want to keep them and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your vines die, we will replace them with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. The vines bear an average of 4.5l of white & rosé wines, Château de la Grave, Colombard/Cabernet, AOP Côtes-de-Bourg per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x__ white Château de la Grave Grains Fins__ (0,75l bottle) 3 x __rosé Hommage de la Grave __ (0,75l bottle) This season, we will send you a mixed box of 6 bottles (3 bottles of white and 3 bottles of rosé) for you to enjoy in the spring. The best moment for tasting our white and rosé wines is around the dinner table, during a good meal with family or friends. Our __white wine__ is very fragrant, with blended notes of citrus, peach, nectarine and exotic fruits. Sometimes a hint of grapefruit completes this delicious harmonious fruitiness. Its fruity and flowery aromas, which are followed by a good liveliness, make it an excellent white wine for accompanying fish or seafood, not to mention cheese! I wanted to show that __rosé__ can be a "real" gastronomic wine full of assets, combining the aromatic complexity of a great white wine, the long finish of a red wine and the finesse of a rosé. In the nose, we detect subtle and intense notes of berries with spices. On the palate, the wine is both full-bodied and airy, accompanying food without adding heaviness or bitterness. You can pair it with all fish and shellfish, as well as all spicy, exotic dishes and grilled meats. Even though the arrival of good weather makes us want to drink very chilled whites and rosés, I advise you to consume them between 8 and 10°C to enjoy all the wine's aromas and flavours at their best. Our white and rosé wines are truly original in that they are fermented and aged in French and American oak barrels for seven months. We thus create wines with remarkable richness and complexity. As they have no tannins, these wines are bottled in March following the harvest and are ready to drink in the spring. They also keep very well for several years. You will be amazed! You will receive your package in June, just before summer. The harvest takes place in September, with the date varying depending on the ripeness of the grapes. Each year is unique. It is mainly each spring and summer’s climatic conditions that create slight differences. We harvest Cabernets Sauvignon for the production of rosé earlier than for red wine. For whites, the Colombard ripens late; it is harvested after the Merlots.
