Adopt vines from the farm "Bodega Ronsel do Sil" in Parada de Sil (Spagna) and receive your harvest in the form of red wine Vel’Uveyra mencía PDO Ribera Sacra at home. María José will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption. This wine was tasted by a group of independent, professional wine tasters that collaborate with CrowdFarming, and it received a score of 91 out of a possible 100.

You adopt vines cultivated under the European Union's Organic Farming regulations. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2023. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. Adopt 4 vines of the Mencía variety that we cultivate in Ronsel do Sil, a family winery that was created more than 15 years ago from the dream of three generations. We mainly cultivate the Mencía variety, the most characteristic red grape of the Ribeira Sacra D.O. (equivalent to QWPSR) which, in Ronsel do Sil, grows in vines that are 45 years old on average. Our vines grow on the steep slopes of the Sil River Canyons, in terraces built by the Romans centuries ago. Only 5% of this kind of mountain viticulture remains in the world and here in Ribeira Sacra it is called "Heroic Viticulture" because of the dangerous harvest it entails. Our vineyards form a surface of 10ha, where we find young vines (10-30 y/o) in espalier, and ancient ones, in vase (35-100+ y/o). Some of them are pre-phylloxeric and grow forming surprising and mysterious shapes on the ancient terraces. One of the characteristics of the Ribeira Sacra D.O. is that artificial irrigation is not allowed, what makes the roots of our vines develop at great depth into the granitic soil. These characteristics confer a particular minerality that can be appreciated in the glass, in a total symbiosis between wine and terroir. For this unusual harvest and the quality of the product, our wine Vel'Uveyra Mencía was awarded the CERVIM Excellence Prize and Gold Medal in 2013, which are awarded to mountain viticulture wine. Other prizes that Ronsel do Sil has received include the Gold Medal at both the Sommelier Wine Awards (UK) and Catavinum World Wine. The Silver Medal at the Best of Spain wine challenge (Ireland) and the recognition at the Galician Gastronomy and Tourism Gala 2019. Our wines have reached 90+ Parker and Peñin points and have been praised by the critics of The New York Times, El Pais, DiWeekend (Sweden), and other national and international press. The productive life of vines is around 110 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your vines die, we will replace them with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Each vines bears an average of 4.5l of red wine Vel’Uveyra mencía PDO Ribera Sacra per season.

Che cosa ricevi?

Each season we will send you a box with: 6 x __Vel'Uveyra Mencía, red wine, 2016, D.O. Ribeira Sacra__ (0.75l bottle) The wine receives attention for its red/mauvish color, characteristic of the Mencía. In the aromas, one can appreciate the undergrowth and chestnut forests of Ribeira Sacra, the wild berries and dried violets. The first impression in the mouth is its well-balanced, velvety, balsamic notes. It is a structured wine, but with great freshness and soft and persistent tannins. It can be paired with great flexibility, either accompanied by a wok of seasonal vegetables, by any stewed poultry, or also by red tuna tartar. We carry a completely manual harvest, in cases of 15-18 kg. We also carry a triple selection of the best clusters: first in the vineyard, then during harvest, and finally at the selection table in the winery. After this, the grapes undergo a cold maceration, followed by a spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, in French oak barrels of 5,000l, and pre-fermentative aging, also in used oak barrels, for 8 months. We take care of the elaboration until the end: we use 100% natural cork of the highest quality to seal our bottles, which allows for the wine to enhance its characteristics through the development in the bottle. We recommend preserving the wine between 10°C and 25°C, far away from the direct light, and to taste it at between 16°C and 18°C. The bottles are sent in certified cases to protect the glass, so that they travel securely. In the packaging we do not use plastics and all the content is biodegradable or recyclable. You will receive your bottles of Vel'Uveyra Mencía during the month of November, so that you can enjoy our wines during the holidays. We choose this shipping date so that you receive our wine at its optimum moment of consumption. Also, at this time we would have finished the harvest, which usually begins around August 31st, and we could dedicate all our time to prepare your orders with all our care. This way we also ensure the perfect shipping temperatures.
