You adopt 11m² of a market garden vegetable plot from our farm in Stadtlohn (Germania). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union and as Bioland as of 1993. You're adopting a little bit of bioLesker. Although they're vegetables, they're much than just that! Our vegetables come from our market garden and outdoor vegetable beds. Vegetable varieties have interesting names: In your harvest box you'll find Lech and Korist which are types of kohlrabi, Xiomara, a romaine lettuce, Kelvin – celery, Dunja the courgette, and two varieties of carrot, Milan and Fynn. We've got Krypton the leek, spring onions called Parade, and then there's Boro the beetroot, along with a few other friends described in more detail under the heading, "What will you receive?" All these varieties are approved for organic farming and have shown themselves to be a big success when grown in our area. We employ two different farming methods in our outdoor vegetable beds. Firstly, we've got traditional vegetable fields. Then, thanks to my two motivated co-workers, Lea and Alina, this year we're embarking on a market gardening adventure. This means having compact gardens that produce vegetables in a very small area, using simple techniques and making maximum use of the space. We've been living out our belief in better use of the land and have been cultivating our produce according to strict Bioland guidelines since 1993. And what started as a side business back then is now a place where lots of like-minded people live and work. At bioLesker, we believe in the sustainable use of the land, and we work on a daily basis towards a way of farming that our grandchildren will one day inherit. We just get on and do it! We give our very best efforts to cultivating vegetables sustainably, and then we market them in various ways. So, you're adopting not only a vegetable plot in order to get fresh, delicious and abundant produce from our fields, but also the philosophy of how we think agriculture should work. Food that is quite simply organic, honest and straightforward, and comes direct from the farmer to your table. Your market garden vegetable plot produces an average of 40kg of Bioland organic market garden vegetables each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
You can reserve between 0 and 0 boxes for the season, and then you can plan the delivery of your boxes for any of the delivery dates available in the shipment calendar. Shipping format: __4kg box of Bioland organic market garden vegetables__ You'll receive a harvest box with 4 kg of mixed Bioland organic vegetables grown outdoors. We want to send you vegetables in all shapes and sizes fresh from the field, which is why we'll pack your box with a colourful mix from our market garden: * 3 x organic Korist and Lech kohlrabis (approx. 750g in total): juicy and compact (not woody) – quite flat, round, green tubers with dark green leaves * 2 x organic Xiomara romaine lettuces (approx. 400g in total): dark green, very uniform mini lettuces – with dense leaves and a slim appearance; their crunchy leaves make them perfect for a light salad for lunch or dinner, or whenever you fancy * 1 x organic Kelvin celery (approx. 250g): characterised by a beautiful, slim, smooth appearance, and with a delicious, fresh taste to its main stalks – a popular choice in summer salads and soups * 4 x organic Dunja courgette (approx. 250g): it has a beautiful, dark green, shiny skin and firm pulp (not floury or bland). Although a brownish colour on the outside, it radiates a rich, strong red when cut open – perfect for your curries, salads and carpaccio * Milan & Fynn carrots (with a bit of luck, they'll make it into your harvest box at any time of year): these two tasty morsels are characterised by their bright orange skin, their exceptionally sweet, fresh, full and juicy flavour and their crisp consistency * Parade spring onions (end of June to beginning of September): with their long, white stems, they're just right for adding a special "bite" to a fantastic salad * Krypton leeks (end of July to mid-August): leeks as you want them to be – not too intrusive but not plain either, with light green colour and mostly upright leaves; their refined taste underlines the flavour of your soups or takes centre stage in a delicious leek quiche * Organic cultivation, with the EU organic certification and Bioland certification since 1993 * Harvesting is done to order; the vegetables are free of wax or preservatives and despatched in a plastic-free cardboard box * The best place to store them is a cool and dry environment (14-18°C), so that they'll stay fresh for around 1 week Our vegetables come directly to you, fresh and full of vitamins. The very best for your salad bowl, for a tasty smoothie or just to nibble on. Of course, you can fry, bake, steam or boil our vegetables too. The basis of all your cooking! __Storage:__ Do not store fruiting vegetables, i.e. the tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers at too low a temperature. Anything below 12-14 degrees Celsius is detrimental to vegetables as it can diminish their taste and is unnecessary. If we at bioLesker have done things right, you can store them in a spot that's not too warm (not above 18-20 degrees Celsius) for at least a week. But check on them daily and enjoy them at their peak. Weather and seasonal conditions – for example, a thunderstorm – can have a major impact on how long vegetables will last.
