Adopt a cow of our flock "Auenhof" in Telgte (Germania) and receive your harvest in the form of fresh dairy products at home. The Farmer Birgit will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one cow is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
Adopt a cow from our farm in Telgte (Germania). You can adopt one of our dairy cows. We keep Holstein Friesian cattle (Black and Red) on our farm as well as Fleckvieh. In terms of selection and their genetics, we focus on robustness and health, which is more important to us than the highest possible milk yield. We also optimize our husbandry and keeping conditions to make our cow’s lives healthy and comfortable. But even if we opt for farm-own, balanced and fiber-rich animal feed, for pasturage on grass whenever possible, for health instead of maximum performance, and for homeopathy, we do not have the organic label. For us, “nature does not have a label”. Our whole philosophy is orientated towards organic and natural production and processing. However, we deliberately renounce certification since it does not correspond to our idea of a holistic approach to food production and livestock farming. Depending on the seasons, our dairy cows have daily access to pasturage and, thus, they benefit from a regular exposure to the sun and fresh air. The modern and open cowshed as well as extended access to pasturage have a positive impact on animal health. Natural livestock farming means to us that we take on the full moral responsibility for animal welfare from the first day till the last day in the life of an animal. All animals always have fresh fodder from our farm, fresh and clear water from our own well and, depending on the climatic conditions, extended access to pasturage. This positively influences the quality of milk we work with. We take the needs of the animals seriously. Thus, the calves born in our cowshed stay with its mother around two weeks in the shed together with more recently born calves around two weeks, before the whole group of calves (“friends”) move out together. We consider the cow as a social herd animal – and herd animals should never be alone. Life for us is, amongst other things, the movement of energy between all individuals involved. We are convinced that good products can only be the result of respect and love shown for everyone involved. We do not participate in beauty contests or performance contests – neither with our animals nor with our products. The approval of our customers, who can always see and visit our animals, is enough recognition for us. The average age of our cows is approx. 7 years, but many animals become much older. In a small nearby family-run business, the animals are then turned into meat products for our farm shop. The productive life of a cow is around 10 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your cow dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assure the delivery of your harvest from other cows. We have approx. 45 ha of land which is divided into arable land and grassland for our own fodder production as well as into pasture for livestock farming. We rear our female calves so that they become dairy cows, while we hand over our male calves to a nearby fattening farm. Each cow is adopted by 100 CrowdFarmers who receive boxes with 61.6kg of fresh dairy products. A cow from our farm produces an average of 8000l each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount from your cow to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. One of these is our drained farmer's yogurt, where our natural yogurt is gently drained, resulting in a particularly creamy yogurt. We came across this recipe many years ago through a Greek restaurant. They asked us to make Greek-style Tzatziki for them, and this yogurt is the basis for it. Our Tzatziki is also based on this creamy yogurt and is really a dream! The quark is produced as gently as possible with a Schulenburg quark maker. For the industry, working with this machine is often too time-consuming which is why our quark will taste quite different from what you are used to. What else? The yogurts are solid, “stitch-proof” yogurts (“stichfest”). The yogurt milk is filled in liquid form into the containers and then incubated inside, this is when it turns more solid. We send our fresh products out in a recyclable carton, insulated by pressed hemp sustainably produced by the company Landpack. Moreover, we add an ice pack by Landpack which is only filled with water and not with chemical coolants. The ice packs are recyclable and refillable. From the dispatch onwards, the fresh products have a shelf life of at least two weeks. At the same time, it is important that the products are stored in a refrigerator. The lower the temperature is, the longer their shelf life is. All our manually produced delicacies are made with pasteurised full-cream milk – as naturally as possible. We can produce all our products for the CrowdFarmers all year round. Due to the high temperatures during the summer months we do not offer shipment dates. During the shipment season we offer many dates the CrowdFarmers can choose from.
