Adopt an almond tree from the farm "Cortijo Chirlata" in Baúl (Spagna) and receive your organic almond flour at home. Paco will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic almond flour and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt an almond tree from our farm in Baúl (Spagna). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2007. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your almond tree. The almond trees at Chirlata are grown in the exceptional highlands of Granada, an area full of contrasts with a climate perfect for cultivation, featuring short, hot summers and cold winters. The production of almonds dates back a long time and is particularly notable in the winter, when the view of the hills blanketed in white almond blossom is simply spectacular. The farm has several varieties of almond trees; the main one is Guara, although there are also Marta trees. This is why your box will contain a mixture of these traditional local varieties. The Guara almond comes from Asia. It's a tree that can withstand drought very well, so production is never affected. It blossoms late, so the tree doesn't turn white until the end of February. The other variety is Marta, an almond tree obtained by crossing the Ferragnès and Tuono varieties. It also blossoms late and, like the Guara, produces a bountiful harvest. Your adoption is 7 years old and its productive life is 35 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops being able to produce for any reason, we will replace it with an other, and we guarantee your delivery from the produce of others for that season. Your almond tree produces an average of 2.1kg of mandorle each season. With this amount we can produce around 2 kg of organic almond flour.
Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __Organic almond flour__ (1kg, kraft paper). Organic almond flour of the Guara and Marta varieties, made after drying, blanching, sorting, and grinding. Packed in kraft paper bags for storage in a controlled atmosphere. Best before 12 months. Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature between 6º and 10ºC. Once opened, keep in its original sealed packaging. Ideal for baking, thickening sauces, and in the preparation of bread and pizza dough. Almond flour is a substitute for wheat flour in any recipe, it has fewer carbohydrates and is also gluten-free. Keep in mind that as it contains more fiber and absorbs more water, so you will need to add between 10% and 20% more liquid. Also in breads and pizzas, which need yeast, you may need to add a small percentage of wheat flour to help fermentation.
Quando lo ricevi?
We harvest our almond trees at the end of the summer, during the month of September. We then dry them naturally for 3 to 5 days, this is a very important step which helps the almonds to retain all their properties and freshness. Once we receive your orders, we grind them, dry them again, and prepare the flour. It is a very laborious process to which we dedicate several months.
